I’ll explain the CCIP fee for fudders. That’s a gas fee. You can pay the gas fee with any token you want. So if you’re exchanging from ETH to arbitrum, you’ll use ETH as your token while an equivalent amount of LINK tokens are in the backend doing the swap.

Most people forget than OPTIMUM, ARB, BASE are all ethereum L2s. So your price is pegged to ETH. When AVAX or BNB makes it on this swap protocol you’ll see AVAX or BNB for the CCIP fee. The only reason why the price isn’t in LINK is because you’re not trading link. You’re simply using their protocol to swap. The 10% is due to slippage which in most cases aren’t needed necessarily.

If you were to send your ETH from MATIC L2 to ETH BASE L2 then your transaction won’t go through. Why do you think COINBASE CCTP partnered with CCIP? It’s because you literally can’t swap tokens on different L2s directly unless you use metamask or another Dex. The goal for CCIP is to get rid of exchanges overall and do direct swaps.
