Crypto nerds are ABSOLUTELY SEETHING over the fact they can't anally masturbate with their crypto, while we r/wallstreetsilver stackers CAN -- Right now I've got a 1KG silver bar up my ass and it feels AMAZING and I know the COMEX can't take the bar from me! Meanwhile Satoshi can log in to Bitcoin at any moment and steal your coins. Knowing all this I'm anally masturbating with my silver right now and my cat is watching! I'M ABOUT TO COOOOOM!!!! AND COOOMEX CAN'T STOP ME!!

I have heard that during times of volatile silver prices, it was easier to sell Eagles than anything else. So Gold Eagles or Buffalos might be interesting to you. On the other hand if there is some kind of event like you speculate that permanently and significantly increases the value of gold (which sounds like a dumb boomer conspiracy theory) then you might want something that is legal to melt or cut up.

Hard to say without more info. If they are in the condition as nice as in my photo earlier, then it's probably a decent price. I'm not an expert by any means. I've bought all mine from private sellers. I got this lot a while back, here are the prices for each:

(top left - right)
Otacilia Severa Antonininaus - Pietas - 244-246AD - $30 (Wife of Philip I)
Small Ancient Greek bronze - $35
Severus Alexander Denarius - Salus - 222-235 AD - $45
Severus Alexander Denarius - Salus seated - 222-235 AD - $49
(middle left - right)
Trebonianus Gallus Antoninianus - antioch mint libertas - 251-253 AD - $55
Philip I antoninianus - Aequitas rev. - 244-249 AD - $49
(Bottom right corner) - Lot of 3 Septimius Severus Denarii - $100
Timoleon Greek Bronze - $190

I bought these from this guy on instagram, solid dude to buy from.

Nice stuff anon, do you remember the attribution for the $35 Greek bronze? I don't recognize that one. The chonky bronze from Syracuse is clearly an older collection coin, it definitely got fondled and loved years ago. Very nice stuff fren, you live in the US? I'm not familiar with US prices, and i guess it must be more expensive there for obvious reasons, so i'd say you did good for all these denarii. I often see those ones selling for around 40€ over here on ebay in similar condition, but i live literally on top of an ancient roman camp. That's great you managed to score them at approx the same price than close to the source!

For the greek one i'm not familiar with this specific bronze, can you tell us more about it? You believe you got a good deal for it?

>>57449672
>yea is hard to believe coins that old could look that good.
We are talking about an empire who ruled for nearly 800 years over an incredibly vast territory and who did all their transactions in coinage for the entirety of this duration. It's impossible for our mind to envision.
So it's not that hard to believe when you think about it, and we will continue to find back 2000yo roman coins in great condition for the next millenia and there will still be more buried under the ground or at the bottom of the mediterranean sea.
Over here medieval & feudal coins are much more expensive than roman coins, they are more recent but no kingdom in Europe came even near close to the mint production capacity of the romans.

Oh and if a fren can help me out with identifying this coin. She came up in a lot of medieval coins. She's a silver lightweight, about half a gram.

Most approaching stuff i could find is those tiny silver coins called Angster, Haller, etc.. minted by the free cities in Germany and Switzerland during the middle age, who had a special status.
Maybe from Lucerne like here ?

The question now is: can I get a second ounce before an event that makes gold much more expensive?
I'm wondering about actually having to use it and whether it'd be better to get 4 Sovereigns (plus some grams to make it 1 ozt) for divisibility.
4 quarter-ounce AGE or even Maples (I'm in Canada) are options as well, though, a bit pricier.

I don't doubt the liquidity, but the problem with American Silver Eagles is the high premium right now. One used to be able to buy them a few dollars over the spot price, but no longer. Stacking Canadian maples is way better considering that even if silver were worthless, your maples would still be worth 5 Canadian dollars, whereas a silver eagle is worth 1 USD. Then lol, lmao even. It's never happening. Governments have money printers and it in no way behooves them to give up that power for sound money. The entire global economy depends on this continuing. Even if such an event were to occur (it won't), it'd be apocalyptic and there's no way to predict what would have a better exchange rate in this fantasy new world order. Never happening - and yet banks are buying gold at record levels. Curious.

Governments have PAPER printers. And that power has limits that governments cannot control. The USD has the power of money only because it once was backed by gold and the world got used to it. The world can walk away from it too, if it gets painful enough to hold on. And that seems to be the direction of things.

But I agree that it is rather far-fetched to speculate on which gold or silver coin or round is going to be most desirable in a future world.

Central banks also stack foreign currencies in their reserves. Curious? No, not really. Gold is just one financial asset that banks use as a diversified store of value.
>The USD has the power of money only because it once was backed by gold
This is such a reductionist and uninformed take. The USD became the world reserve currency, because post-WWII we were the only major power whose economy wasn't utterly decimated by the war and being the victors and the strongest standing industrial power, we decided the post-war nations needed access to capital through trade rather than empire, since that's what caused the war. That's why we built up the German and Japanese economies and enabled them to be the major economies that they are today. Their BTFO countries didn't start using the USD post-war because "oh it's backed by gold lol." And if you think the world is walking away from the USD because it's "painful," then lmao, lmfao even. I guess the other way to look at it is that I don't want to be without gold/silver in the event that it becomes necessary.
But I'm not entirely sure a situation where the local dollar goes way down and metals stay around where they are or even rise can happen.
Like what stops them from printing to stay afloat and introducing a new paper/digital currency? "Some kind of trade in your old get the new!" period.
Yet I suppose in that situation having metals to sell would give one more freedom/value than government would be willing to hand out for 'free' when introducing a new currency?

I kinda agree with you: There's way too many anons that see a total collapse AND a total revaluation of gold (and even more so, silver, because, well, because!!) as guaranteed. And well, it just isn't guaranteed. Possible? Yes, though probably not the Mad Max scenario. But it's also totally possible that it wont happen and the can keeps getting kicked forever.
Me, I just try to play both games. Sure. I won't end up being a wasteland-lord buying hundreds of BJ's a day with his tons of silver if the mad-maxers are right since I also got some normie-tier investments instead and I won't end up with a Lambo, since quite a bit of my money is tied up in gold and silver instead of yolo-stocks and crypto, but I won't be fucked in either scenario either.
Also: I got plenty of bottle caps too!

I looked back at the prices from when I had my first job. I wish I was aware back then.
Building up a stack slowly on the side would've been different than considering a more major start right now.
Part of me feels like I'm being too worried over the potential impact of this conflict and what could happen if the US gets more involved after that drone scenario.
On one hand all that happened with gold/silver is that the price rose a lot over the years following 9/11, but they didn't become necessary, you know? So I feel like that's all that will happen here. It'll become more expensive but not necessary.
On the other hand there's all this mounting debt, talk of soft landings, rate cuts, bailouts (for this year). How long can a system keep racking up debt? Who can really call the debt owners to suddenly pay?

>what stops them from printing to stay afloat and introducing a new paper/digital currency?
I think those sorts of steps are just assumed in a currency collapse scenario, right? They're going to try printing, redenominating, and replacing.

it's only after all those have failed several times that people will be forced to use other things for money. But even before people are forced to, an increasing number of people would be trading goods instead of fiat anyways.

Reality isn't dichotomous, and your fantasies shouldn't be either. If silver and gold gain traction as money, it won't be sudden, and it won't be because of any single event. Nor will it be stopped by any single event. There are people using gold and silver as money right now. It's just a question of how many, and how soon.

If it happened right now, silver and gold would be used for trade along with whatever people have on hand simply because people right now remember silver and gold as being valuable.

If we get to a point several generations down the line where silver and gold aren't valuable and nobody alive remembers them being valuable then they'd be less likely to be used as money I think. Either way, people are going to trade what they have on hand, and most people don't have silver and gold to use as money even if they do get used that way again.

A diversified portfolio that includes physical gold is smart if you're a touch paranoid, but it's not the be all end all (far from it). The the global order has no interest in nuking itself into oblivion through money printing. There are far too many connected parties in global capitalism to just let that happen. The world isn't as simple as that (but a lot of schizoid stackers believe it is).

In all seriousness though, I agree with the sentiments. I like gold and silver coins and I'm admittedly into them far heavier than financially makes sense, but my other investments earn me more and should become increasingly bigger percentages of my portfolio going forward. Coins feel more like a hobby to me these days. Nothing ever happens, shit never hits the fan, etc.

It's funny how everyone blames the fall of the Roman Empire on currency debasement. You could also argue that they perused an early inflationary-like policy and that it's one of the reasons the empire was so successful and long-lived.

Mad Max is increasingly possible as people rely more and more on technologies for their survival that are relatively easy to disrupt or take out entirely. That was sorta one of the big themes of the apocalypse movies. If your entire society can't function without gasoline or cars you've got a weak spot. Since that came out we've developed a lot of other weak spots. Targets really. I think that's why the thread has always encouraged stacking food and land and water and knowledge. Most people alive today can't live on their own, and that's going to be a problem at some point.

broadly speaking there's 3 major categories of possible future that I've read or can imagine, and all of them result in us stopping the use of personal technology.

Yes, the US government will print money for as long as it can to keep the party going. But when it is over, it's over. The problem with the redenomination or replacement of the USD, that has not existed with any other hyperinflationary collapse, is that it is a global currency. Maybe they could force a replacement on Americans domestically, but why the fuck would Singapore or Taiwan or France or Mexico accept a new USD from the government that just fucked them over worse than they have been fucked over? The answer is that they wouldn't. When the USD hyperinflates, its day as global currency is done. That means there WILL be other currencies circulating. What they will be nobody can say, but the notion that the entire planet is going to turn the other cheek and use some Federal Reserve shitcoin is ridiculous. Fifty years ago, maybe. Today? Not a chance.

the problem in the recent past was that humans can't keep up with real time arbitrage in an inflationary scenario, let alone hyperinflation.

computers have fixed that problem. Arbitrage is barely even possible now because we've written code to jump on it every time it shows up. This doesn't help the average person with fiat problems, but it sure helps governments and corporations that can afford to field that sort of software. At that point there essentially is a global currency, because conversion from one currency to another is possible nearly instantaneously, and adjusting the value of a trade in fiat takes place in fractions of a second. We're close to the point where it simply doesn't matter how one currency performs against another.

I have about 200 toz. I got them around spot and cataloged them. At the time I was pretty nostalgic and enjoyed holding real money that people valued and will value. With all the talk of cbdc, handing down these coins to my kids in a few decades seemed like a no brainer.
Unfortunately, they take up a fair amount of space and without knowledge (or being burdened with an estate) my kids may overlook this. It's only 200 oz - why not swap it out for bars?

>Dad's 8 track collection? Let's order a dumpster!
I can accept some of that logic. You're grieving, have a taxing job, and now have the stress of dealing with a second household to eliminate. A binder of old coins on the shelf is getting tossed. A 100oz bar in the safe isn't.
>>57460277
My kids are all 5 years old or younger and I'm doing my part. My main focus is whether the fight of holding 3 binders of coins is worth the headaches (storage, damage, loss, ...) or do I consolidate.
Weighing the risk and headaches vs the appreciation of passing a 1940 coin that'd be 110-120 years old is burdensome. It's an equation of practicality, neumasmatic speculation, risk, and education which I could use help calculating.

i think it would be a mistake. sounfs like your fixated on it for some reason.
a few 3 ring bunders is literally nothgin if you put it up in the closet or in the basement or the attic or whatever.

imagine what the world will be like in 3 or 4 decades from now. it could be we no longer have paper cash currency or any kind of metal coin currency.
much of it may well get melted down between now and then.
look at the prices of coins from the 1700s and the 1800s, like early american coins.
these things potentially bevome rare numismatics over a time of 50 years or more.
no one can reliably predict it. also even the possibility that even melt value could iteraly sky rocket between now and then.
seem like you could store it away and forget about it for now and see what the interest or the values are in ten years or so.
i look at it like guns. one of those categories of items you will probably regret getting rid of.

>we went through a lot of stuff
That's my sentiment.
My grandpa was nearly 100 when he passed, still living at home. This might bring tears to my eyes, but the night before he died, he tried to go down to the basement. He fought his daughter who was caring for him.
His daughter calmed him by getting him to agree to wait until tomorrow when his son showed up.
I think he sensed he was about to die and wanted to uncover something.
He died that night.
That still haunts me. He had silver and gold and at least $50,000 in cash.
He was a product of the Great Depression.
What did his kids miss?
I'm the type that'd value every piece of paper from an inheritance. I'd look in every nook and crevasse.
That's sadly not everyone's logic as you know from experience.
These coins are the least of my pm collection. Today, after collecting for years I'm not positive of the value or what'd I'd get from a coin shop. Rolling the dice and thinking my kids could do better in 30-40 years seems risky
>sounds like your fixated on it for some reason.
It's only 200oz - +/- $400 is nothing to me. I expect to finally have a 7 figure estate this year.
I am emotionally attached to world silver; these typically span from 1840 - 1955.
Holding one of these coins is magical. It's history. I remember taking $1.10 to school every day to eat.
If I lost my money, I didn't eat.
That dollar bill and dime was my livelihood. It made or broke my day.
I hold an 80 year old sixpence and think the same thing. This was everything to some kid in war time London.
Fast forward to where the writing on the wall screams of CBDC. Digital currency. 'Money' is merely how many useless good boy points the company store wrote for you. The erasing of history.
>you could store it away and forget about it for now and see what the interest or the values are in ten years
That's my dichotomy. Convert it to bullion or lug binders around for life and let my kids deal with it. There's the middle ground of 'wait and see'.

Holding a sixpence from 1910 or 1940 and thinking that was someone like me in 1st grade. Scared, alone, hungry, and being dependent on those coins - and the amazing reality of at least THEIR coin held that value and I can use that today to obtain the same thing - is the root of my attraction.
I hold their coin and imagine it saw famine and bombs and births and deaths. Tears and joy.
People valued that coin back then and people value that coin today.
That's real money. That's what I want to impart to my kids.
I guess the crux of the question is
>Is hauling around 200oz of world coins for my life worth the appreciation in numismatics?
>much of it may well get melted down between now and then.
That's my case. 30 years ago, who cared about a peace dollar?
>i look at it like guns
Having been a gun dealer I see two perspectives
>Gen 2 Glock
It's worthless
>Mosin Nagant or K31
2-3X since ~ 2010

I don't liquidate stuff like that just because I own my home and it's a big home so storing some shit in the closet or safe is no big deal. I'm paying for the storage whether I use it or not so I might as well use it. And it's not like cashing it in would help me financially, I don't need the little bit of money. Usually when I sell that sort of thing I live to regret it.

Yeah, my kids are going to sell my junk when I die, and it will sell cheap. But that's not my problem. I've made them aware of which bits are valuable, and some of my collection is willed to museums. Some of it has already been donated to a museum. But junk that isn't worthy of a museum or a rich person's personal collection is going to get liquidated and that's fine. Part of accepting your own eventual death is realizing everything you own is temporary, and your family probably doesn't want it. Enjoy it if it brings you joy. Sell it to someone else that will enjoy it if it doesn't. Or toss it in a closet and forget about it for a few decades and see what happens. It's not hurting you to own it unless it's actually in your way. And if that's the case I'd figure out a better way to store it is all. Plenty of ways to get a few binders of coins out of your room. Even rented places usually have a few nooks or cupboards that could hold something like that. If they get stolen don't worry about it, make a police report and then cut it loose. Don't let your things own you. But that doesn't mean you have to get rid of them, or worry about what happens to them when you're gone.

>My kids are all 5 years old or younger and I'm doing my part.

I started collecting when I was 5, but often it can take until teenage years for the seed of interest to germinate so I'd just wait and watch for 5-10 years to see what kind of individuals your kids become. My 4 year old loves playing with and sorting my old coins, and my 6 year old frequently comes to me asking "can you please show and tell me about some more of your ancient artifacts?" which I'm always happy to do, I've spent upwards of an hour at times telling her the stories of various antiquities which she digests with unwavering attention and interest, really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside lol. Hopefully it develops into a genuine lifelong appreciation like it did in me when my dad and grandpa exposed me to coins and antiques as a little kid, no way to know but you'll have the best odds if you introduce your kids to your treasures as soon as they can be trusted to not accidentally swallow them.

>my kids are going to sell my junk when I die, and it will sell cheap
Agreed. 200oz of silver is nothing in comparison to what I spend, and will spend on them.
>Junk that isn't worthy of a museum or a rich person's personal collection is going to get liquidated and that's fine
It's in the holder of the value to determine what junk is or isn't. A druggie finds value in scrap copper. A modern wealthy person finds it an annoyance.
>Everything you own is temporary, and your family probably doesn't want it
Life advice and a sentiment that I could have condensed to this.
>That doesn't mean you have to get rid of them, or worry about what happens to them when you're gone.
Thank you, anon. Whoever you are. A $4,000 coin collection doesn't matter to anyone else and the last of my energy should be spent fretting about it or how it will impact my kids in 30 years. I'll toss them away and see if if it can impart some wisdom as they grow up.

Even if it was from a diplomat, if this isn't issued/licensed by a government's institution and simply come from a private collection, i can't justify spending too much. The seller is asking 50 bux for the pair of cufflinks + the fibula + the silver star. I could maybe haggle and try to lower it down to 40, but that still more than i'm comfortable with.

OOF! The USD just took a hit to its status as the world's reserve currency.

https://watcher.guru/news/brics-uae-pays-china-new-digital-dirham-ditches-us-dollar

BRICS members UAE and China settled a cross-border transaction on Monday using the new Digital Dirham sidelining the US dollar. This is the first-ever transaction made directly to China from the UAE using the new mode of payment with the Digital Dirham. The direct trade settlement was initiated by the UAE through the ‘M Bridge’ platform making ways for BRICS to end reliance on the US dollar through digital methods.

The UAE Central Bank initiated the Digital Dirham payment to China amounting to Dh500 million, which is equivalent to $136 million. Shaikh Mansour conducted the historic transaction directly to China showcasing the ‘M Bridge’ payment platform.

The live trade settlement was also attended by the UAE’s Central Bank officials and graduating students comprising 1,056 Emiratis. The development indicates that the UAE is ushering in a new era of digital payments.

Guess I can always hope for a fondling nugget (or maybe an ancient coin, I've found some pre WWII coin (left) and that thing on the right. I'm pretty sure it's a coin, but fuck me if I know what coin) in my panning endeavors.

How does starting a new thread help increase traffic?
Also, stupid theme - promoting a guy who sells his stack?

What makes that silver coin worth $3k?

When thread is slow and not even at bump limit, make multiple threads with no PMs in the OP. Simple as.

I think just the low mintage of it. Only 20,000 made. There's a more common anniversary variation that would be much cheaper, but I have't see a single version of that one in decent condition yet.

Man, for $3k you can buy ancient gold, but I guess numismatics all comes down to individual preference. I hope you get it for the offer you made!

so if i dont give a shit about all the gay shit is it better to just buy 100oz bars of silver or a bunch of american eagles

Whether or not you care about gay things does not matter. What matters is your goal with stacking. Assuming you plan to sell at some point, just know that you'll likely get under spot when selling 100 oz bars, whereas ASEs will get over spot. Consult various online dealers and see their buy back prices or ask your LCS. Always have an exit strategy for any investment, and the liquidity specifics of that will differ per person.

I think it is prudent to have smaller denominations. You will be much happier being able to sell a few ounces at a time rather than trying to unload a single 100oz bar which could become extremely high in value making it difficult to sell. If that is not an issue and you have a large sum of money to invest then getting larger bars may make sense to you. But your average pleb it's better to be divisible.
