One big problem with gemstones is that they are not fungible. Gold is gold and silver is silver until the end of time. But no two gems are identical. And their value depends on color which can be manipulated. And some of them, like my two favorites opal and turquoise, are fragile. This is one of those questions no one really knows the answer to. Most people I pay any attention to expected at least a major shake to the house of cards by last September at the latest, but that hasn't come to pass and everything that can be done to kick the can down the road is being done (short of a major war). If I didn't have a stack at all I'd be moving to hit 2:200 as quickly as I could without putting myself into debt and then go from there.
