What credit card do you have? and how do you save points?

>> No.57354573

Never understood why people care about this. Why are cards seen as a status symbol. Is this just an illusion for the cattle?

Money is the real points, and you keep it by not spending it on consumerist trash and buying scarcer more desirable assets than fiat currency (land, BTC, gold, etc.).

I just use my credit card the same way Id use my debit card basically and just pay it off monthly. Over the course of 6 months of using it like that I got an extra $350 in points that I can cash out. So the way I see it theres no reason not to have one and use it if Im gonna be spending that money anyways on food, gas, etc

Cards come with many perks, sometimes instantly break even the costs of the card (travel insurance, travel credit, purchase protection and insurance, cash back deals).

Pay everything with your card -> earn points > use points for charges/gift cards/flights.

You want one in USA because it can save you a ton of money with cashback rewards. There is no downside as long as you budget properly and set it to autopay your balance every month. In other countries the rewards aren't that great so it's usually not worth it to get one

I have six cards
>chase Amazon card
Basically only use for 5% (sometimes six) cash back on all my Amazon buys. No annual fee
>chase freedom unlimited
1.5% on everything, but I really don’t use this card anymore because Wells Fargo beats it. No annual fee
>chase sapphire preferred
I don’t know why I have this card, restaurants and streaming subscriptions are 3% and travel is 2%. And I guess I get a free DoorDash subscription for goyslop. $95 annual fee. Dunno if it makes up for all the benefits
>chase freedom
Rotating 5% on a category. No annual fee
>discover
Had the cash back match for a year, now I just use it for the quarterly 5% category. Never overlaps with the chase category, so it’s like a secondary 5% cash back category every quarter. No annual fee
>Wells Fargo
2% back on everything not in a category. No annual fee

I have over 30 active credit card accounts. My favorite card is from SoFi since it gives 3% cash back. I also like my Delta Skymiles card for larger purchases that I might have to cancel (like travel). They make it effortless to do a chargeback in case anything goes wrong.
All my other cards were simply used for the intro bonus rewards that range from $150 to $500 each. I've made at least $10k over the years.

If you are extremely financially disciplined and know the value of money (not being an American). You can earn points and use them to offset your usual spending.

In America they have such good credit card benefits because the population is truly retarded on average with money compared to other first world nations. Their benefits are lesser because there's more financially savvy people profiting from the credit card rewards in those countries.

You’re absolutely right. Having credit cards is only useful for extending your overall credit line in case of emergencies and for raising your credit score. A lot of cope ITT by tards who get as much in points as they get charged in annual fees (or who are just piling up debt and getting farmed for interest).

If I could stack points and cut the cost of air fair / hotels dramatically maybe I could afford to experience some travel while I'm young

In my opinion, this is my very comfy daily credit card cycle. No fees.

>Amex Blue Cash Everyday (no fee)
3% back at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 spent per year.
3% back at U.S. gas stations on up to $6,000 spent per year.
3% back on U.S. online retail purchases on up to $6,000 spent per year.
1% back on other purchases.

I use this one basically everywhere. Especially the "Online retail purchases" category, a lot of stores operate in a way that this actually applies to the way their merchant system works so I get the 3% in store at a large amount of places.

Amex also gives an absurd amount of offers to various places.
I put all points towards paying back my statements.

>Amazon Visa
3% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and on Chase Travel purchases
2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare).*

I use this one at Whole Foods, and Amazon, and the small few places that doesn't accept Amex. I put all points right back into my statements, or towards future Amazon purchases.

>Target Redcard Credit Card
Save 5% at Target

Use only at Target (only accepted at Target). Don't use often, but nice to have. 5% is a decent amount.

>Charles Schwab Debit Card
I use this for rare international purchases. Like Hetzner VPS for example. Because no exchange fee. Also I believe they wave ATM fees.

>Local Credit Union Debit Card
I have a debit card for my local credit union. I have my work deposits go into this checking account, and then I move stuff to an American Express High Yield Savings.
I keep a little money in the checking and on the debit card just in case and that's about it. I pretty much never touch this card, it's only for backup if a place won't take credit (rare). I use the Amex Blue Cash pretty much 98% of the time.

>> No.57362330

>>57362321
Also it should go without saying. Never fucking hold a balance on the card. At the end of each statement, pay off in full. You need to be very good at paying attention especially if you get multiple credit cards. It can get forgetful fast to pay off one and it will sit on your credit report forever and fuck you (you could potentially try to call and get it waived if you have a good history and it's a one off thing)

AMEX BCP gives 6% cashback on groceries and 3% on gas, with a $95 yearly fee. If you spend only $500 and $200 a month on these, that's a free $337 bonus yearly.

> Never understood why people care about this.
> Is this just an illusion for the cattle?

Essentially, yes. It's a "status symbol" because it's made to be that way - some cards are genuinely hard to qualify for, so people see them as impressive. It's also a quick way for normies to judge your status, kind of like your car, phone, or neighborhood.

The points and gaming the system to get "perks" is basically clipping coupons.

However, there are two "real" benefits:
1. Having a credit line that might even be at an ok rate if you had cards for decades.
2. Since it's part of the system, it's a fast way to build credit and quality for lower rates on a home.
