Until they don't. You're suffering from the same problem the DEI offices of these airlines are suffering from. "The planes fly themselves these days, let's get a lot of brown and female pilots up there!"

This only works while the plane is flying itself. Look up how many emergency landings happen each year.
>Airport records show 133 emergency landings in 2016 and then 170 emergency landings in 2017. That's roughly one every other day
Do you trust your black female pilots to make an emergency landing? Do you trust them to do it every other day? This is just emergency landings, some other issues can arise in flight that a competent pilot can correct before an emergency landing becomes necessary. You think your black female pilot can perform that kind of damage control?

Not a risk I'm willing to take.

The planes have flown themselves since the late 60s.

The problem is they still had a massive number of crashes back then mostly due to phenomena we didn't understand or many flavors of pilot error.

To prevent this globally airlines have learned that they need stringent training standards and the ability to share information on pilots to prevent people with bad habits from slipping through the cracks.

The problem is we are currently loosening that standard, people who previously would have been rejected are being placed in the seat.

Unfortunately aviation regulations tend to be written in blood.

I'm not one to defend DEI but 170 emergency landings in a year is a very small fraction of total flights and not all are necessarily mechanically related. Could be passengers etc. Also DEI pilots *for now* are another small fraction so the odds of them being at the helm for a true emergency are very slim.

More money generally, more prestige and room for advancement and the option to fly short or long haul. Also you aren't at the beck and call of your passengers because there's a wall of bureaucracy between you and the passengers.
So no Nancy screeching at you because she saw you touch the thrust lever for start of decent.

Private pilots unless they are a part of a very very small handful chauffeuring billionaires are pretty low tier. You'll find much better pilots flying any widebody aircraft outside of asia.
