What are the risks in keeping my securities in the brokerage arm of a small online bank if it's SIPC insured? Like if the bank goes under, what happens to my stocks. Brokerages are closer to lawyer firms than banks. That's why banks typically hire them to handle all that shit, they can't afford all the legal footwork, and dealing with customers. I've probably called my bank/insurance a dozen times a year, and they always have a waiting time. I've never called my broker.
