Finding genuine companionship is the only thing that matters in terms of enjoying things. Imagine going to some new place and having nobody to share that with. I’m Gen X. My parents wanted to travel and I got to tag along. I got to stay in cheap flats in London where I couldn’t understand a word of their British. I went to Paris where they couldn’t understand a word of my French. Twenty years later those flats in London were filled with violent foreigners and Paris filled with immigrants who don’t speak French. Paris was so bad I kept getting stopped by tourists and asked for directions because I’m white. I don’t travel much anymore. I’m not sure it's worth it. You’re no longer missing out on much.

I like art. I cannot begin to describe the difference between seeing a photo of a statue by Bernini vs. being able to stand there and look at it. Or to hear about Stone Henge, but one day be able to walk around the monument. There are some things that are worth it. I always assumed photos of insanely blue water were altered until I visited places like Greece. Going to major cities, unless it is to visit something specific like a museum, are disappointing experiences. Very crowded, dirty, and cultural identity diluted. I used to strongly recommend travel but now that major cities most everywhere are complete garbage I generally say do not do it unless you have a reason. Maybe you like museums. Maybe you like history. Maybe you like natural beauty. Just traveling to travel these days is how to come home feeling like a chump and depressed.
