This proposal has nothing to do with investments. The Russian government has central bank assets such as treasuries that were frozen to prevent their spending. It was effectively already stolen from them 2 years ago, so any future decision is just confirmation that they'll never get that money back. There's also some value to the current administration if they can claim the money as a slush fund that bypasses current debt limits and such. Recent agreements did not include continuing funding for Ukraine, and Biden has attachments to Ukraine so he's been looking for a workaround.

If you're invested in Russian stocks that are currently frozen, your true risk is that Russia decides to counter these US moves someday by outright stealing any foreign owned/sanctioned shares of Russian businesses. To be clear, there is not much Russia has really done much to limit your access currently. It is the US government that told you you can't trade those shares. More specifically, no US citizens or any other western government under US pressure is able to purchase them, and so your brokerage has taken the lazy option of halting trading forever. Use of rubles is also sanctioned, so even if you could sell there's awkwardness around accessing any funds you'd receive.

In conclusion, your shares are safe. But you should be taking action if/when available to get any shares off domestic brokerage accounts and away from US jurisdictional control. In general, ADRs/GDRs will always have added risks and fees compared to more direct local ownership. ETFs are even worse. Anyone holding any ETF with even partial holdings of Russian stocks got absolutely fucked and will never see their money back, nor see equivalent shares distributed relative to the positions their ETF holding represented.

I'm just starting out on a dividend account, mostly focusing my resources on making it an almost entirely monthly thing. I also have SCHD in it but ignore that.
What do you guys think is an ETF that is basically doing the same thing as SCHD, being a broad market thing that is safe and stable, yet pays out monthly? I have O, which pays good but the real estate market could shit itself. I have MAIN, but all those retail places like Rite Aid are dying a slow death. JEPI is another monthly div favorite, but it's a tech fund and tech is not stable at all. The only thing that feels stable is KO, I am pretty sure people will buy soda until the rapture. But that's just a single stock, not a ETF like SCHD.
I've looked into DIVO and NOBL but I hear a lot of conflicting information about those so I'm lost.

CONSUMER PRICE INDEX - DECEMBER 2023

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent in December on a
seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 0.1 percent in November, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.4 percent before seasonal
adjustment.

The index for shelter continued to rise in December, contributing over half of the monthly all items
increase. The energy index rose 0.4 percent over the month as increases in the electricity index and
the gasoline index more than offset a decrease in the natural gas index. The food index increased 0.2
percent in December, as it did in November. The index for food at home increased 0.1 percent over the
month and the index for food away from home rose 0.3 percent.

The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.3 percent in December, the same monthly increase as
in November. Indexes which increased in December include shelter, motor vehicle insurance, and medical
care. The index for household furnishings and operations and the index for personal care were among
those that decreased over the month.

The all items index rose 3.4 percent for the 12 months ending December, a larger increase than the
3.1-percent increase for the 12 months ending November. The all items less food and energy index rose
3.9 percent over the last 12 months, after rising 4.0 percent over the 12 months ending November. The
energy index decreased 2.0 percent for the 12 months ending December, while the food index increased
2.7 percent over the last year.

Better to pick 4 stocks that pay quarterly and have a stability, and balance them to get once a month. But if you're risk tolerant there are now a bunch of option based ETFs that will lose your money slow enough to make you think you're gaining, while paying nice dividends. Personally, and I wish I had done this, put half in trusts that are currently downcycle sectors, and don't ever touch them again.

>>57257388
Means the rate stays above 5% until summer 2024, at least. Not going below 4% this year. Might get hiked if it keeps climbing, but, again, it really just means people were fucking off at work in November and cost of goods to actual labor went up. Won't realy know until March.
