7 yoe and been laid off for a year. I’m so god damn tired of interviewing and grinding the job hunt. Just had my last interview today. I was so nervous and burnt out that I was on the verge of tears and considered not showing up at the last second. Ended up telling myself to just wing it and that this would be my last attempt.

It actually feels great to accept my fate. I just wasn’t meant for this industry I guess. I only studied CS in college because its what everyone pressured me to major in…I never enjoyed the corporate lifestyle and constant upskilling grind either.

I don’t know what I’m gonna do next…stock shelves, go back to school, declare bankruptcy, live under a bridge, suck dick for cash…but I’m ready to accept my fate. It can’t be any worse than this shit. Farewell, former codefags.

Same here fren, just not nearly as highly paid as software engineers - business intelligence. My severance runs out in February and the job search is killing me. At the same time, I can't see myself happy in another corporate wage cage. So what should we do? I'm thinking about trade school

Sorry anon, sounds tough. But also sounds like you are on the path to freedom. No human is meant to sit in front of a computer all day.

>forced to constantly learn and improve outside of work, even when experienced
>forced to jump through hoops at every interview with leetcode etc.
>absolutely no professional licensing body
>faced with new gay and retarded frameworks, arbitrary quality standards, detrimental fads, etc.
>in direct competition with outsourced and H1B insourced turdskins: entry level, experienced hires, management, and now executive leadership
>also in competition with DEI hires at all levels
i can't think of a gayer and more retarded line of work than software.

There’s your problem. You don’t actually enjoy programming. Those of us who do will never have trouble finding work because the job itself is the reward. I would gladly take a minimum wage job writing code, yet you’d rather stock shelves instead.

If you end up sucking duck for cash, let me know. I'd like to be one of the first customers before your mouth gets nasty and infected.

Its more reliable income than dividends from assets. It also requires a fuckton of capital to be earning just 50k per year in dividends but that's just a modest salary for a job.

Get your cdl. See the country. One caveat, have an exit strategy in mind early. This shit is not for people who have loved at home who wait for them. Save up half a mill or more and start a business. Or buy your own truck and name your own price/hours.

It is because SWE are overpaid in US - they earn 2x more than same level and skill EU dev, not to mention East Europe/Asia etc. Those jobs ars moving to third world countries. Programming is becoming a job of the poor.

Nope. That shift already happened 20-30 years ago. There was a big push to try to outsource jobs to India, companies realized Indians are shit and unreliable at writing/maintaining software.

Now there is this balance where Indians are used for a lot of contract/one-off work while you keep a staff of Americans for general maintenance and design. It's already quite globalized. They aren't "overpaid" in the US, the US has the only valuable tech companies on planet Earth.

I also have 7 yoe in a tech field, and I've been out of a job for 2 years. Can't get interviews most of the time, and the ones I do get usually pass me over for a diversity hire.

I'm over it, they're all cocksuckers and cunts, fucking psychopathic cringe redditor hivemind. I'm gonna go work on boats with my hands instead, and yell NIGGER whenever I like. Fuck white collar bullshit.

don't stress bro. intense computer jobs like coding and IT related fields , operations and Devops are horrible soul killers, eye killers, mood killers. I know cause I did it for 5 years. I invested in bitcoin during those 5 years so I am comfy, the past 3 years I worked a bit but mostly travelled, was outside of the country for 18 months of those 3 years. then did the odd job here and there. mostly working in a factory assisting in production work, driving the forklift, stacking some pallets, making sure the conveyer belt doesn't get stuck. simple things but it was just a lot more fun than sitting behind a computer all day, granted I'd probably get bored of it soon too. but still.

It may be crazy to you, but some people just want a job so they can enjoy their lives outside of writing code for Mr. Jeetbergowitz.

bet its more fun too. fucking corporate jobs are hellholes. wouldn't be able to subscribe to that unless i have a family and kids. a family might make it bearable. else, nah.

It is more fun, I like how physical bartending is, feels a lot more healthy utilizing physical energy to gain income.
And ubering is nice because there is no office or faggots you have to play politics with or fat hr women to harass you. However the training videos are very woke and cringe. Decent money for the time though, on par with being a welder of 10 years lol. This whole economy is so fucked up.

Sure if you’re a normie. For me the greatest pleasure in life is sitting down and solving a problem by writing code. I’d unironically rather be doing that than having sex.

Fair enough but that's not typical, and like had been discussed it doesn't pay well unless you're already 10+ years in. Good luck getting started now as a white male when shaniqua gets a free pass because oppression. Fuck it.
