Australian here. This thread will probably only make sense to Australians, sorry.

Has anyone else here been able to come to the conclusion as to why Australian McDonald's is so expensive, yet still appears to be wildly successful as a brand here?

I tried googling this and pretty much every answer is along the lines of:
>cost of labour is expensive in Australia

But I'm not buying that explanation. Because when you compare it to Hungry Jacks and especially KFC, McDonald's is upto 2x more expensive than either of them for some menu items and there's a general consensus amongst most people that it has way less flavour.

is another silly answer I keep getting from people, but that's absurd because if that really was going on on any kind of notable scale then KFC and Hungry Jacks would be paying millions of dollars in fines and wouldn't be operating for much longer.

So, economically speaking, how are other fast food restaurants here nowhere near as big/successful as McDonald's yet they are all objectively far cheaper, have larger portion sizes and taste much better?

It's still pretty cheap compared to McDonald's though; depending on which McDonald's location you go to here in Sydney, it's around $4.60 for a large fries.
Meanwhile HJ large fries is around $3.80 (sometimes even has promos for $2). And their Shake2Win app constantly gives huge discounts on stuff. McDonald's never does discounts.

There was a Maccas and HJs competing right in Melbourne’s CBD. The Maccas was a filthy shithole, but the HJs may as well have been Gaza. Surrounded by homeless with inedible food, and promptly shut down while Maccas keeps on ticking. My guess is the management for franchisees is way stricter, and there are fuck all alternatives in Australia to compete with bare minimum competence.

For me, it’s the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.
One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, “Wow, three for free!” and the nice friendly McDonald’s worker laughed and said, “I’m going to call you 3-for-free!”.
Now the staff greets me with “hey it’s 3-for-free!” and ALWAYS give me three packets. It’s such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald’s restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I’m in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.
I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it’s delicious! What a great restaurant.

As a cheap cunt the only fast food I ever treat myself to is KFC. It also happens to have the best calories/$. Dunno anon, that shit is addictive and people are retarded with their money is all I can think of.
