I remember the dumbest argument I had with an avax holder was that having the same security on all subsidechains was not needed because it's fine that a game has less security than a financial dapp.
Today I watched a doug video about proof of work confirmation times and realized that on a network like kadena you could have instant finality on a game dapp if your confirmation is just 0 conf, if you however need higher security you can simply wait longer.

you're talking about trading 'effective' finality vs security, a tradeoff that Nakamoto consensus has had since the beginning of BTC. it's nothing new. it also has nothing to do with shared security tradeoff which trades decentralization for TPS bandwidth. This means that some subnets could run hot, like Solana, and run faster TPS with higher incentives to centralized. Other subnets, maybe more respectable ones, could run colder and eliminate incentives to centralize validators.

Returning to the first tradeoff mention, the old BTC one. Avalanche doesn't worry about your '0-conf' finality tradeoff since finality is already close to subsecond and more importantly finality isn't probabilistic like BTC. blocks are 'locked in' once confirmed so there are no orphan blocks or longest chain rule to worry about. Why? Simply the advantages of having a novel and superior consensus mechanism, that's all. KDA is very clunky in comparison if they are still worrying about longest chain rule and '0 conf', but that's what they get for using a souped up version of a relatively ancient consensus mechanism. Seriously, Nakamoto died a long time ago. This intense nostalgia for PoW is not helping crypto adoption, it's time to move on.

Avax not being able to come up with a competent sharding model and simply allowing for sidechains is disappointing, you can't disagree with that. Even being an DA chain for L2s is more interesting at that point (like TIA). There simply is not enough innovation happening on avax beyond a novel consensus. Finally, Proof of Work is simpler, and now it's also more scalable. I like simple things.

it doesn't work. I looked into it, and others, and it's effectively just a mining pool / load distributor with some rudimentary bridging. not true sharding. there is no such thing as sharding. it simply does not exist.

I remember Vitalik saying something about how they could be used for sharding. besides that, zk gives you real L2s which would let all chains vertically scale only by sacrificing finality, and only chain to chain finality which isn't even that big of a deal.

not all PoS is created equal. I know ETH merge added a fair bit of 'bloat' to the equation. things like RANDAO to pick consensus leader instead of using good old fashioned mining hash wars. That said, Avalanche consensus simply applies a voting weight based on staking amount. that's all the addition PoS adds, a simple weight. the PoW version of Avalanche consensus would work almost the same, a weight added to the vote based on how close to a target hash that said hash miner was able to get to. turns out in AVAX's case, the PoS version of Avalanche is in fact slightly simpler than the PoW. You have to stop thinking about everything in terms of Nakamoto consensus.
