The way software engineering works is that there are a small handful of brains behind each project, with an army of code monkeys whose job is just to implement what the brains tell them to.
AI will gradually replace the monkey jobs while the higher-level jobs become more competitive and exclusive

if you did customer support once in your life you would know it still exist for a reason

i got a female accountant on a ticket two hours ago asking me what is the address of Microsoft because her bank can't leave her to make the wire transfer without this information

People who contact customer support are not able to interact with a bot or anything like that

today again i got a US boomer who was constantly clicking "receive a new code" for the MFA because he could not get to the "message" part of iphone while on call

we are here to stay, we have been outsourced tho (eastern european here)

>> No.57184813

and to add something to my last post:

the accountant had something like 5,000 licences to pay every month so around 25-50K USD per month only for Microsoft, I'm not talking about a grandma with a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription

For the male boomer i will add that he was trying to read fast enough the SMS on his screen and then typing the code on his computer but was constantly failing at it, when you live it it's infuriating but i know these people are the reason I'm paid being comfy at home (100% remote) and doing almost nothing

the issue with this line of thinking is that AI is good at providing a generalized solution to a generalized problem (which is why it's really good at leetcode) but bad at accounting for the specific smaller problems within the larger problem that are making things more complicated

it's true that the big brain software guys are the ones architecting larger system while the lower level guys are the ones coding it out, but you still need the lower level guys to parse through the smaller issues with configuration, problems inherent to only your codebase that you know about but AI doesn't, etc

2008 and 2020 crashes happened for the same reasons really. Big tech will be consolidated and employment waves will crash in harder cycles. Tech industry will be a proxy war between culturally accepted workers trying to create worse and worse systems to justify their work to their increasingly psychopathic bosses and private hacking groups compromising the increasingly shittier systems the former is making.
