if i got 50% gains on my portfolio it would be sufficient for me to support my family for 3-4 years
50% is huge if you aren't poor

however I won't follow through on OPs oil advice as oil will do poorly in a recession, i dont think its a bad idea but given that I would rather keep my precious metals miners and other commodity producers over oil.
I may consider finding a few ETFs to diversify into though
