found one for california from a dogshit source; everything else was unrelated or paywalled in the search results:
>Last week's announcement from California's Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara comes after several years of wrangling between local politicians and insurance companies. In May, State Farm -- the country's largest home insurance company -- said it would stop issuing new policies in California. AIG had already made a similar move in January, and Allstate followed suit in June. Unlike utility companies, insurers are under no obligation to provide coverage. When big insurance companies pull out of an area, it pushes homeowners to the insurance of last resort. In this case, that's California's FAIR (Fair Access to Insurance Requirements) plan. The difficulty with this is that it is expensive and overstretched. Plus, consumers can't shop around for the best price and FAIR coverage -- designed to be a temporary solution -- can be limited. Phil Irwin, a FAIR representative, told KCRA that average annual premiums were around $3,200. In contrast, The Ascent research puts the average annual cost of home insurance in California at $1,252. That's a significant extra weight on people's budgets. More worrying? The First Street report says the number of non-renewals in parts of California increased by 800% between 2015 and 2021.
if someone could find that old /smg/ thread that would be great, that anon said some other things as well.

Millions of Gen X, and Millennials, are actively buying index funds every payday. Boomer IRAs are inherited by Xers, and they have 10 years to pull the money out, since most of them will be in their 60s,they'll reinvest most of that money into index funds until they retire. Boomers living off of their savings impacts the market WAY more than them dieing off does.

Before you read this keep in mind I am retarded.
Does tax advantaged really matter, aside from the small dividends you might get via growth stocks? Assuming when you start pulling from the account you don't exceed the 0% tax bracket on capital gains. Today this would be around $44,625. Hear me out. If you bought stocks decades ago at $200 and started selling them today, and they are worth $800 each, that would mean you are looking at only $600 of that $800 being counted towards that $44,625, $200 is already taxed principal right? Meaning you could sell off ~$59,500 worth of your shares to live on for the year of 2023 and pay exactly 0% tax if I'm understanding this correctly? That's a comfortable retirement in my book, the limit will surely be higher in 30 years when I start.

Unless there's some advantage to tax-advantaged accounts I'm not understanding beyond the simple fact you won't pay income on dividends and you can pull out a lot more money in a year than, I personally, would think is necessary for a comfortable low-key retirement. I suppose the rules could always change, maybe in 30 yrs there won't be a 0% tax bracket, or it won't be inflation adjusted to be equivalent to the current one. Or maybe they will tax unrealized gains, who knows?...

you are right that you only have to worry about capital gain taxes when you sell
so while dividends+stock price appreciation are equivalent in terms of gains (canadian banks actually outperform index ETFs if you reinvest dividends) the way dividends are taxed can screw your gains longterm unless it's tax-advantaged

im a leaf though and in canada our TFSAs are one of the few things that make it worthwhile to stay in this place over just moving down south for better wages
TFSA = if you turn $50K into $1 million you don't pay ANY tax at all so of course you're going to use this first
RRSP = tax deductions on whateveer you contribute (so more money to invest NOW) and you only pay taxes on what you withdraw out of the account (as income) -> when you're retired you're going to be at a much lower income tax bracket so it's even better

really depends on what your country has

I plan on doing it with 401k funds before I claim socal security. Then use that taxable money that your taking about after I claim to stay below whatever the threshold is for having more of my SS taxed. The 401k advantage is I save taxes today when I would be in the 24% bracket, but my 401 is doing a nice job of keeping me in the 22% bracket.

it's nice to be optimistic to think your timeframe will still be 20+ years when you're 65, but you'll probably want to slowly convert your portfolio to bonds around that age

like there are those target date funds that slowly change your equities to bonds towards whatever the target date of the fund is (e.g. 2050 retirement date) but those usually have higher fees and might be too risk averse with their allocation
then again life expectancies are probably getting shorter instead nowadays so it might be fair to be more risk-averse instead of staying 100% equities at 50 years old or whatever

tax deductions (and investing that money of course) is powerful as fuck

irrc for leafs, the TFSA and RRSP are basicailly equivalent in the end assuming tax brackets stay the same, sicne while TFSA is completely tax-free, the money you're putting into it was already taxed +30% or whatever, while with the RRSP you're deferrring that tax and so receiving the growth from that extra +30% capital from present time

always go tax-advantaged first unless you have shorter timeframes, or you're doing risky plays (can't write off losses in tax-advantaged account)

1 kind is like the US IRA account, where the money you put in it is deductible from your current year taxes and the taxes on gains are deferred somehow, usually when you take the money out

2nd kind is like US Roth IRA, where you can only put taxed money into it but the gains are tax free

if you don't expect to pay much or any tax on your withdrawals like you outline here then the first kind of account is still useful because it gives you a tax deduction today for your contributions

Statistically, you save money by choosing not to purchase insurance.
You can pay out your entire paycheck and become a permanent wageslave in exchange for the comfort of knowing you'll never go bankrupt, or you can save up your own money and play the odds for a change to truly make it.

The ultimate irony is that those non-savers have the least to lose through bankruptcy. Health insurance is a much bigger waste than home insurance, however. Car insurance is probably the biggest waste, but most states mandate that one.

That's probably why they're flying up and down as well as their potential competitors. Also no birth control means no rawdogging. She wants to be a SAHM and I don’t think I can afford that on a $100k salary in HCOL metro. She’s accustomed to a certain lifestyle from her wealthy daddy.

It means her programming will make her turn your child against you. She will constantly be paranoid that the bad feelings she's feeling are your fault and social media and culture will reinforce that it's your fault.

Or maybe that era is over. We might be coming out of the woke era. Anti-liberals have a lot of momentum and a lot of politicians who want nothing to do with it. That's the first step.

I'm sorry, but you're correct. We have to change the culture. We can do that with our money and with our influence. And then you get a wife. Jk go searching for a rural wife from Kentucky. They're still fucked up but if they believe in Jesus you're halfway there.

I don’t see NVIDIA sales decreasing much (or at all), but it’s hard to tell how much of the valuation is AI hype. NVIDIA has a solid moat and a steady development cadence, and its hardware is going to be used in everything from self-driving cars to data centers. You’re basically investing in Levi’s instead of the gold miners (which means it doesn’t really matter how this AI stuff plays out) so if you bought in a while ago then holding is probably a safe play long term. Might not get you maximum profit if the hype deflates but it’s not going to crash. Not sure I’d buy in now, though.

We’re invested in the infinite multiverses of communities present on our world.

Each love is a soul.

What true wealth is to one soul is different from another. However there is absolutes of true wealth. Absolutes of true goodness. Absolutes of true love.
An example of absolute true wealth is the freedom to let others be and thus invest all attention to ones truest-wealth/truest-love.

The problems of the world is that love is love, and that in of itself is the solution.

Let's suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream that you wanted to dream. And that you could, for example, have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time. Or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each, you would say "Well, that was pretty great." But now let's have a surprise. Let's have a dream which isn't under control. Where something is gonna happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be. And you would dig that and come out of that and say "Wow, that was a close shave, wasn't it?" And then you would get more and more adventurous, and you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream. And finally, you would dream ... where you are now.

same anon, but diff ip. You get taxed with the conversion, so it's best to do that in a year you have low income or are unemployed. Realistically after you've quit your job but before you qualify for retirement withdrawals is the most prudent time imo. I would go ahead and setup the Roth now to get the 5 year rule ticking for earliest tax-free withdrawals on earnings if you don't have one already.

401ks also offer some unusual benefits like being able to take money out as a loan against yourself, then the "interest" you pay goes back to yourself instead of a bank, so it's not all upside by converting to a roth.

A significant aspect of my peoples abstract-science universities and chempunk is pinpointing aspects of psychedelic and isolating what causes the effect and growing what’s isolated.
We likewise do this for all sorts of drugs. Drugs get progressed and birth branches of unique new drugs. Drug splicing also.

Any of you that have problems can have your problems cured.
Our investors are of the perspective that drugs can solve anything and do unimaginable things as we grow and splice increasingly abstract effects.

Recently our teams have put CBG into Dutch, Canadian, Portuguese, and Oregon markets. CBG is completely different from CBD. The G increases focus. In laymans terms we’re making GGG so people can tune their focuses better.
We’re of the perspective that doing this is a significant aspect of divinity. Focus is an abstract energy and absolute energy. Focus is the interaction of infinite multiverses. Focus = mass. Spirits/perspectives/feelings/ideas manifest.

I think what we go towards likewise goes towards us. Multiverses are constantly connecting. There’s infinite definitions of multiverses and infinite dimensions of multiverses.

>So price will have to double for miners revenue to stay flat?
Yeah. You can look at previous halvenings to see how that played out (I like these guys' charts https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/))

>Do inflows tend to increase after the halving?
Yes, as the supply shock drives up the price, increasing price drives up interest, and interest leads to more people throwing money at the Bitcoin. This is separate from COVID or pre-2024 election stimulus but those certainly don't hurt.

The increasingly limited economy is good for true economy. My people have made many real estate markets off limits. Cost doesn’t exist within truest community.

Regions truly prospering rather than being a game, creates truer wealth greater than the sum of its parts.

A true retirement is to be with ones true community rather than being amidst unequal transfers.
True investments and true economy are pure generacy rather than an abstract theft.

Much of Detroit was evacuated and emptied due to invasion. But it’s true community has grown and returned.

Masses of empty buildings have gone to pure French and indigenous and Azov migrants and philistine pagans.
It’s an especially Gallic place worth investing in.
New military bases and police forces have removed all invaders and have secured the future.

Michigan is an independent Frenchist white nationalist nation.
We are invested into Michigan.

Cleveland has also been cured.

All churches in Michigan are being removed. However the beautiful ones that weren’t originally churches are kept and the masons etc are creating real community centres.

It's not TaxxMaxxing if I stay in the 12% bracket in early retirement, and minimize my RMDs, and how much my SS is taxed later. But up to this year I was TaxxMaxxing (LT cap gains) to reduce my future cap gains. All of the money to pay the taxes came from "outside" money, rather than money I would have invested.

One element of concern I have about tax-planning is I think we could see tax-hikes if the deficit gets too extreme. Current rates are historically low from an income-tax perspective. To some degree we're taking a risk that the tax system will be same around retirement. Social security went from not being taxed to being taxed. I think it's good to have a post-tax account in addition to all the tax-deferred to hedge that risk.

Regarding your picture there, I think that's pretty common and car dealerships know it. When I was car shopping earlier this year every single one of them like to veer the discussion over in to monthly payments instead of actual total price. They like to tack on extra shekel grabs by framing it in the shape of 'this will only increase your monthly by a few dollars!'.

To clarify a little more, I mean that I think it's prudent to have money in an account with no special rules attached. IBM is testing waters for businesses to phase out 401ks for RBAs. We don't know what kind of requirements to keep tax-advantaged status will placed upon us. Maybe one way the gov deals with the deficit without austerity is by mandatting tax-sheltered accounts keep a minimum percentage in Treasuries. There's also bracket-creep, where tax-brackets increase at a slower pace than your experienced inflation.

Maybe I'm a bit too schizo, but I get peace of mind knowing I've paid my citizen extortion and don't have to dance entirely to their tune for retirement.

The way it works is this; on IRS site there is a chart/table thing with arcane formula. Basically using that and your age followed by account balance determines your RMD. The good bit; under new 401 rules you don't have to touch that money till your 72. S.S rules say that if you can keep from claiming it till your 70 then you'd get the most from the S.S office.
