It's a proof of stake blockchain the first of its kind where moving coins from a to b is not the only thing it can do. It can host NFTs, videos, VMs, dapps, games, files, and pretty much anything else the modern internet can host all on chain for a reasonable price. This can only be done on icp due to patents made by dfintiy for inventing this type of blockchain meaning every other chain has to recreate the wheel on this invention. You simply can't fork it like AVAX/SOL did with eth and add their own twist to it. So every chain will have to go through icp if they want to go through this next level and is one of the reasons why a lot of leaders on multiple of the eth fork chains are threatened/hate icp.
The project introduces a whole new web stack where you do not need to mess with firewalls and the traditional IT security route. Your dapps still need to be built with secure engineering techniques but all the data that is hosted on chain is encrypted. Where it's pretty much impossible to hack it since it was invented by the best cryptographers in the world (Some people like to theorize the team is cicada).
ICP is pretty much what ETH dreamed to be and what AVAX/SOL claim to be. It's the real deal if you believe me try to develop a project on icp and then do the same on ETH, SOL, or AVAX and you will understand. There is barrier of understanding that norms won't be able to comprehend once the project has matured.
Also there was an inscription stress test that occurred on almost every chain performed by some crypto group in asia/china. They invested millions to pull it off and they were testing to see what chain meets their requirements.
