what is the downside to investing in a leveraged etf like UPRO vs VOO? is it just more volatility and bigger impact in bear markets?
from what i understand there's no reason to just not go all in to a leveraged etf if your a beginner and/or young.

UPRO has a higher chance to go bust. But as long as the underlying asset keeps going up at the same rate it has been over the years, it will get better returns. You will get worse returns if it stagnates, or if it increases by a small amount (I haven't done the calculation but my guess is 2% increase per year in SPX then URPO volatility drag eats away at it). I would do more calculations on this before I put money in, but I do think putting some money in UPRO is fine, and isn't the retarded decision that many say (using an example where SPX doesn't increase in value to prove it's bad).

DCA somewhat helps, but you really have to zoom out since the danger is on bigger time frames. The best use of leverage imo is dca after drawdowns and capture the rebound leveraged long. upro did 7x from 2020 lows to 2021 high.

You can find articles online about the gains from excess risk for levered funds peak around 2x.

I'm not well studied on smallcaps, but here's what I know. Smallcaps have more risk than mid/large caps. Smallcaps are at a financing disadvantage compared to largecaps. Smallcaps aren't exposed to forex head/tail winds and are more domestic economy synchronized. Smallcap value I've heard has some long-term alpha, but smallcap growth can be a minefield. Looking at VB (Vanguard Smallcap etf) quickly to check the chart, it looks fairly priced according to the long-term trend.

I think whether or not to bet specifically on smallcaps depends on your view on the future of domestic US economic health, and where rates/dxy are going.

You're not keeping the lawyer on retainer, just to review everything making sure you don't do something stupid after you get a basic plan sorted out with your money manager. You're not interested in investing into a local startup or anything? That's what I'd be doing, looking for local small business owners that need capital, or will need it, as aquiring cash gets harder and harder. I loan sharked real estate in SE Asia for a few years and made 5-7% a month, but didn't have as big a pot as you. I'd have retired over there if I had.

Most leveraged ETFs don't work long term due to the mean annual volatility of the underlying. To keep it simple you want a mean IV under 20, and a history on long term performance for the underlying. Which leaves you with broad market ETFs like SPY and QQQ. The mean IV for SPY is 14, and it can (optimally) run around 3x daily leverage. QQQ has a mean IV of 18 and can (optimally) run 2x daily leverage. You should also compare the performance of 2x and 3x versus the underlying. QLD (2x QQQ) has done 2.15x (over the past 5 year) versus the underlying. Whereas TQQQ (3x QQQ) has shown the effects of volatility drag with 2.7x. I think 2x ETFs for SPY and QQQ can be a relatively safe hold long term as long as the US is still strong.

If retards didn't pile into "luxuries" (especially "luxury" electronics like Nvidia GPUs) and other "status improving" objects or projects with their stimmie checks during the plandemic, inflation would not have run nearly as hot as it did.
People should've unironically paid off debt with 80% and maybe dive into "luxuries" with the remaining 20%.
Yeah, inflation is partly the fault of luxury seeking retards that were handed "free money."

I've traveled all over North America. The Carolinas are beautiful, but full of niggers. New Hampshire is nice, but taxes and old money. The rest of the shit up here is basically how it's meme'd here and on /pol/. London was a fun visit, and I traveled around the country side. Do not recommend, but the museums and shit were cool. Amsterdam is a fun visit, but you've never been at an extreme latitude, so it might fuck you up depending on the time of year you visit. That being said, I lived a few years in the Arctic circle, and dealt with no daylight for four months a year, couple months of transition, and four months of night. 100+ knot storms that last for days on end in -50C temps sucks ass. the trend is always to concentrate and turn into monopolies. it's gone from s&p 2000 to s&p 500 to s&p 100 and arguably s&p 10

i work in a pharmacy that supplies nursing homes exclusive and over the past several years, all the smaller players have been bought out or wiped out
guess what happens now when you have a big client that manages 20 nursing homes?
there's only 2 players in canada that can even bid on that contract, it's reached a point where nursing homes are just hopping between TWO suppliers when there used to be at least 4-5 maybe

pic related is my company's competitor... if antitrust or whatever monopoly laws didnt get in the way, they'd probably be bought out by now

Cost of living is too high in the EU in my opinion. VAT and other taxes, cost to import energy, it's a long list. I spent a few weeks there to get an idea of how expensive it was as I did all the other places. Dubai is actually a pretty cheap place to live, I had an apartment there for a few years, same thing in Singapore. But, Singapore if you want to buy a car just the price for a license plate is like $70k, so you have to factor in a lot of stuff that you'd have no idea about if you hadn't gone and visited for first hand experience. For example, Guam is great, but you pay so much for shipping anything it totally blows that place out as a place to live for most people.

I don't know what's wrong with these retards. It's like they're oblivious to everything outside of their small circle. Big eye opening for me over the holidays was talking to friend's kids that are in their late teens or early 20s. They're all unambitious phone addicted and don't want to have a conversation. They're all basically doomers. WTF happened?

UPRO. 5k in UPRO and 10k in VFV if you want. After 5 - 10 years you can take the UPRO gains and convert it to VFV unless it's crashed, then just hold until it shoots up (only take out when it has had 5x the returns of VFV since you went in, it WILL get there).

Another day. Turned the basement bonus room into an tv/exercise/game room. Air hockey and pool table, mini versions. Pic; Allis-Chalmers combine. One used to be just like it on the farm. Was fun to drive. First truck I owned I paid $1000 for it. Ford Ranger XLT extended cab 1988 model. V6. automatic. Only fancy features it had was a tape deck stereo and an A/C. Also had a big rust hole on the passenger side extended cab part and the fuel gauge didn't work. But hey it ran good and a bit of bondo and paint fixed the hole. (long as you used the trip meter to avoid exceeding 300 miles running out of gas was a non issue)

it's $400K not $2 million
you need at least $2 million to make up for a $100K living wage assuming 5% returns, and realistically you wouldn't be spending that much of course, but you have to account for inflation as well so you keep the other $50K invested to make up for that and only spend the remaining $50K

dividends are still better than the company spending profits on ESG bullshit

dividends are just capital gains that were realized, sucks for anyone trading in a non-tax-free account i guess
but for people with tax havens (leafs have TFSAs or at least dividend tax credits in taxable account) they're no different from capital gains
big 5 banks in canada are dividend kings and as long dividends are re-invested, they outperform the market

stock buybacks are also great for restricting the float, but often times they're just a way for insiders to be granted shares and sell them without increasing number of outstanding shares

This tractor was made between 1947-1952. Loads of models and variants of it. Model B shown. Surprisingly lots of pulling power for being only a 2 cylinder gas under 20hp engine. As mentioned it was the first one I ever drove on the farm. 6 speed. I remember it fondly. Grandad showed me the basics and let me run with it. Uh I wasn't even 15. Hell the first thing I ever drove at all was a 1960s era cub cadet lawn tractor when I was maybe 5?, they modified the brake so my short legs would reach it. (this was back when tractors and things were made of solid metal and had some weight to them and not the thin stamped crap they got now). If the farm falls under my ownership first thing I'm doing is getting another Model B tractor.
