Unfortunately not, the kind of materials mandated by environmental and safety regulations make building houses far more expensive than they should be.
Then you get all of the regulations that surround permitting and actually building the damn thing and you have a construction process that is probably at least twice as expensive as it was 15 years ago.
If you've ever wondered why there are no cheap new builds it's because the industry is insanely over-regulated.
