>Lower rates for utility companies are extremely important.
>stock dropped primarily from dividend investors overreacting to the dividend growth rate slowing (not being cut, just the growth rate slowing)
>The market shifting to the idea that "renewables are bad now" even though the company is shitting out revenue
>boomers panic selling their dividend stock because the headlines "dividend growth slowing" confused them for dividend cuts

Market has completely shit the bed here and a lot of it has to do with the kind of investors that typically seek out stocks like NEP being retarded. This stock is beyond undervalued and most of the bear cases were regarding interest rates staying high until 2027. Basically, combination of shizo boomer investors overreacting and assuming renewables will never make money and we will have a great depression with high rates.
I am EXTREMELY simplifying it for you. There's a lot of refinancing shenanigans going on as well.

yield curve inversions don't always lead to market crashes. recessions most of the time do not mean crashes..

>why are things going to be different now

for the last 100 years, stock market returns were positive, averaging 10% annually. afterwards markets, long drawdowns and/or sideways markets, markets consistently rally. unemployment is low, gdp is positive, rates have gone up yes, but they've gone to a place the economy can handle(as the economy is less rate sensitive, in addition 5% is still not excruciatingly high). the inflation rate has also gone down. why do bears fixate on one metric, ignore everything else, and moreover think the most outsized move is the most possible?

Yes.

>A 'Santa rally' is in full swing across global stocks, with the Bank of Japan's dovish tilt on Tuesday adding fuel to a fire already burning nicely after the Federal Reserve indicated last week that U.S. interest rates could be cut early next year.

>Even Chinese stocks got in on the act, snapping a four-day losing streak, and Beijing is where investor attention in Asia turns on Wednesday as the People's Bank of China prepares to deliver its latest policy decision.

If anything, however, the PBOC will spoil the party. It is widely expected to leave its one- and five-year loan prime rates unchanged at 3.45% and 4.20%, respectively, according to all 28 economists surveyed in a Reuters poll.

>Beijing is under increasing pressure to significantly ease monetary or fiscal policy - or both - to heal the sickly property sector, kick-start growth and pull the economy out of deflation.

>But that probably won't come until some time next year, and although investors are fully anticipating no action on Wednesday, it will be another reminder of China's policy predicament, economic travails and market vulnerabilities.

>Japanese markets, on the other hand, got a shot in the arm after the BOJ doused speculation that its landmark move away from negative interest rates is imminent.

>The benchmark Nikkei 225 index jumped 1.4% and is now within 2% of November's 33-year high; the yield on 10-year Japanese Government Bonds fell more than six basis points, one of its steepest daily declines this year; and the yen fell for a third day against the dollar, this time by 0.75%.

>The yen's losses against the euro were particularly steep, while the risk-sensitive Australian and New Zealand dollars were among the biggest gainers against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, both sitting around their highest in nearly five months.

>The BOJ's relatively dovish tilt boosted the positive risk appetite already coursing through global markets. Despite some push back from Fed officials, investors are still betting on as much as 150 basis points of rate cuts next year.

>After the Dow Jones Industrials index ventured into uncharted territory last week, the tech-heavy Nasdaq followed suit on Tuesday, rising to a new peak just shy of 15,000 points, while the S&P 500 got within 1% of a new record high also.

>The U.S. 'FAANG' index of mega tech stocks rose for a ninth straight day on Tuesday and, remarkably, has almost doubled in value this year. Perhaps this will give the Hang Seng tech index a much-needed boost on Wednesday.

>But while the MSCI World index on Tuesday hit its highest since April last year too, the MSCI Asia index continued to underperform.

okay but a "crash" is not a prerequisite -- you might simply get a protracted, deep bear market.
they're not the same thing, although to me you clearly meant "one or the other," in reality most people only say crash when they mean all major indicies are going to puke double-digit percent, possibly for 2-3 days straight, and the likelihood of halts is very high.
second, no matter how long a recession is, the market can recover at the end of it, again for months and months at a time. a huge big dick bull market can begin well before the recession actually ends.

The yield curve matters because the reversal of it will mean the draining of liquidity from the market. Don't pretend that institutional players don't continue to include significant portions of their portfolio in bonds; what caused bank failures this year?

As far as the S&P and DJI go, 25-40% of their components by market cap have raised in valuation by around ten times in ten years. P/E on average for the indices is already ~25, higher for those with larger cap (~35). Combine this with the AI craze and bull market and we're looking at a scenario with decreasing liquidity, decreasing interest rates, increasing leverage, increasing speculation, in all likelihood outrunning real growth. Smart money knows this and will play it safe, so any small correction could escalate into a bear market like what we saw for most of 2022. Dumb money, the proportion of which is increasing (especially in this bull market), will exit across the next bear market, extending it. I'm not saying it'll be a crash and I'm still in with a chunk of my portfolio on simple stop losses, but there's a case for the reversal of the yield curve strangling the market.

> no clue why it went so low
the same reason most other stocks had lows in September - rapidly rising interest rates on a company that has a lot of debt
Verizon is my biggest holding atm but I just started seriously investing in the aforementioned September. 150 million cellphone subscribers and control of much of the Internet's infrastructure means it would take extreme stupidity for anything to affect its profits

I'm saying imagine you heard ZIM shilled here and thought "Wow, look at that divvy! And people are always going to need to ship things! What a safe bet!" Or a couple decades ago shorted a zero-dividend internet scamco about to go out of business trading under the ticker AMZN.

There's always more dimensions to consider.

I have no idea. They also have some Jewish insider that helped fund the startup and has been dumping his shares for a year now on EVERY uptick.
Personally I think the company will one day rocket but I wouldn't touch it with a fucking 8 meter poll until that Jew is done dumping, which judging by the rate, might not be done for 6 months to a year.

Iron ore is cyclical. If you wanted to gamble on iron/met/steel, you would've been much better off with AMR but they do buybacks instead of divvies.

>PBR
That's gambling on both Brazil and oil.

Frankly, if you rigorously filter on "safe divvies" you just end up with NOBL. Which pays out a spectacular -1% real yield.

There are multiple anons spreading FUD. Perhaps they're jealous because they missed an easy win this past month. They never bought when the trial win odds were being sold at 10%, so now they'd feel retarded to buy at 40%.
Anchoring expectations is a pretty common mistake. They missed the first double, so now they'll miss the next one too.

Sure, but ZIM also had a hilariously low P/E. And they aren't American companies. So who's to say a decade from now they don't get nationalized? Or go back to their pre-2020 behavior of paying 1-2% dividends?

Any other airline, except HA, would be a bet on the airline industry doing well rather than a bet on a specific Judge's reading of the law. The problem is that the airline industry sucks. Look at longterm performance of every stock - high competition, low margins, capital intense, low growth.

HA spread is much tighter so the max return there is 32%. It's not a bad play either, but given codependence on SAVE result, longer timeframe to close, and larger downside risk, I see no reason to speculate on that one at this moment. While the HA spread could stay tight until closing, there's decent chance at any point it could just blow out on some unforeseen risk. Happens to many arb situations at one point or another. I'd be a buyer at that point.
