Mean UK salary is around £35k or $44k. US is $60k. US average tax is 25%, UK is 22%. Cost of living is greater in the US mainly due to extra expense categories (as opposed to higher costs like-for-like), mainly insurance and financial/legal costs. Purely my own anecdotal experience but it seems to me the US just has more extreme poverty and more extreme wealth than over here in the UK. Their homeless seem more desperate, and their rich seem to flaunt and brag more. This seems disproportional to the population disparity.

You can read in my post, US taxation is higher, UK workers take home a larger percentage of income. Cost of living is higher in the US. Property is correct, although if you include cities (US cities have a far greater percentage of flats/apartments) the difference is more like 1.5-2x.
