I am considering liquidating my stack and buying a pound gold bar and maybe 100 oz of silver if I am able to. Should I do that or just keep stacking cash/silver and gold? I just think a pound of gold would be cool and easier to transport than the ungodly amount of silver I have

I do low leveraged trades and go long or short based off the most simple RSI/Bollinger bands strategy, and, if the charts are moving well, I do high leveraged scalp trades when I see a good flag or 3bar. You're confusing the iron age process for extracting gold and other metals from free mill and refractory ores using a reducing blast furnace with cupellation for assay purposes and refining of gold. These are three very different processes and they don't mix.

your plan won't work because:
1. gold is heavier than lead, so the lead isn't going to sink to the bottom of melted gold
2. molten lead will mix with other metals but it also mixes just fine with gold, so you're just going to get a lump of gold mixed with lead and other metals
3. cement doesn't remove lead or other metals. that's bone ash you're thinking of. And the reason bone ash removes lead is because of its biological porosity, not the lime content. So cement won't work
4. You'd need a shitload of bone ash to absorb your lead, and that won't leave the gold and other metals separated, they'll just mix back in with the gold.

If you want real info on refining gold feel free to ask, you have a few experts in these threads. The best method is parting, rolling, and electrorefining. The second best is parting, rolling, and cyanidation. Third best is parting, rolling, and treatment with nitric acid followed by multiple treatments with aqua regia.

all of these methods are dangerous and expensive, but they actually work. Using lead is dangerous and expensive and doesn't work.

Am I missing something with Grade C sovereigns? Chards are selling them for 1% premium and recommend not to buy them as an investment as they're not in a good condition. The methods used by bronze and iron age people to mine and refine metals are complex, and a flow chart is usually used to illustrate them. But I don't have a flow chart made up, so a few notes follow:

once you decide a rock has metals in it, the easiest way to get the metals out is to crush the rock and pan it. This doesn't work on sulfur or chlorine salts of copper and silver though, so they developed lead fluxing in reducing furnaces. Basically crushing the rock, then heating it with a bunch of lead in a sealed furnace that has no way for air to get in. The heat and lack of air tends to cause some of the chlorine and sulfur to vaporize, leaving raw copper and iron and silver behind as solid metal. The lead melts and then alloys one molecule at a time with the copper, gold, and silver on the surface of the reduced metals, basically dissolving it one molecule at a time. It carries the metals because alloys of lead melt at a lower temperature than pure copper, silver, or gold. After alloying with the metals from the rocks it drips down to the bottom of the furnace, where it can be drained off and collected. This process loses over half of the gold and other metals, but it was the best they could do with metal salts that can't easily be panned.

Once the lead mixture was drained, it was then heated in the presence of air, causing the lead to oxidize into litharge. Litharge is lighter than the other metals so it floats to the top where it can be skimmed off. This takes a long time, but gets rid of the lead.

after that you were left with gold/silver/copper alloy with a bit of lead still left in it. This was melted, poured into water to form beads, and then the beads were hammered into foil. The foil was treated with acids, whatever was available. Lemon juice, purified vinegar, or sulphuric acid made by crushing pyrites and soaking them in water. The acids dissolve the copper and silver from the foil, leaving purified gold. This is then melted and poured.

Once you had the silver and copper dissolved in acids, several different processes could be used to extract them back out. The most likely process used by ancient people was just boiling the acid to drive off water until the mixture became oversaturated with metal salts and they begin to crystalize out. none of these processes work well with plat group metals. Plat group is a bitch to refine, and methods were only developed fairly recently. If they had the choice between mining relatively pure gold or a mine that produces say, electrum, they'd just mine the pure gold and ignore the mine that had less pure stuff. Same with copper or silver or lead. You'd just find a mine with pure metals of a single type and that reduced the amount of work and fuel needed to mine and refine the metals.

Mercury mostly replaced lead in ancient times, notably being used by egypt, greece, rome, muslim nations, china, and later the alchemists of europe who likely learned of it from muslim chemists.
Around the same time alchemists in europe discovered aqua regia, again likely with the influence of muslim science.
The spanish invented the patio process, using salt with mercury to get silver. They didn't know it, but they were using chlorine from the salt to dissolve metals so the mercury could then adsorb them.
From the patio process we moved on to using straight chlorine without any mercury to collect metals.

Much more recently chemists in the 1800's developed the use of cyanide and/or electricity to get metals out of rocks and purify them.

The most recent step is far more interesting, since we just use various chemicals to float metals out of the rock. This is an extremely complex and sensitive process, but relatively cheap and safe once it's working right. And this has become the most common method of getting metal out of rock in recent times. Though cyanide continues to be used in many places simply because it's cheaper.

usually just listed as "platinum" since they're plat group metals. Essentially just slightly different versions of the same metal. They all do the same thing, and car manufacturers choose which mix to use based on price, efficiency, and availability.

I don't scrap cars for a living, but I've scrapped a few as a side project before. If it was missing the cat I'd probably just skip it. Aluminum, lead, copper, and gold/rare earths pay. Steel and iron usually cost me money to get rid of.

depends how far you are from someone that wants it. Transporting the junk costs fuel and time.

no, it's about the same as a couple laptops. Far less than a gram, but any e-scrap is valuable to somebody. Again you have shipping expenses, but computer/electronic parts are much cheaper to ship than transmissions or engines or body panels.
