I forget the exact details of this chart i saw on one of the yt channels I watch about finance, but they showed a chart of the unemployment rate going back to like 1940, and about 12 times or so in history it has crossed above it’s 20 week moving average (might have been 200 day moving average or something else like that but you get the idea). out of the 12 times the unemployment rate has crossed above this moving average, 11 times it has been during or immediately before a recession. the one time it didn’t was in the early 1950s, and that one came in between two different recessions that were like 4 years apart. in November, the unemployment rate crossed above that moving average again. that along with several other charts that were shown basically confirmed for me that we are either at the beginning of a not-yet-declared recession right now, or we’re just a few months away from the beginning of one. maybe I’ll find the video later if I can remember which channel I saw it own.
