Man I really fucking hope they get the weed rescheduling finally done during this month.
6 governors just sent Biden a letter urging him to get it done before the end of the year, because the entire process is basically a hair away and just needs some formalities done.
It will instantly launch the weed stocks into the stratosphere, 10x within a week of the news and that's just the beginning.
But it all comes down to that crypt keeper getting the process over and done with, which is not at all guaranteed.
People are loading up behind the scenes judging by the buying, so we can at least assume there's either hope from the smart money or insiders know this subject is good to go in the next couple of weeks.

So I ended up paypigging for tradingview a few weeks ago. Anyways, I was able to download the whole market screener with lots of shit I can fuck around with in excel
For example, this shitco called Aslan Pharmaceuticals has basically just been shitting downwards for months. If you shorted after the giant candle (and pullback), you'd be up 600%.
I found it by looking at the trend in volume, eg today had the most volume in the last 90 days. It seems to have a ton of daily volatility, and the current price is on the low range over the last year (columns AN-AQ).
Anyways, given the huge spike in recent volume, it means people are either aggressively piling on to short it further, or accumulation for a reversal. There's a whole ton of shitcos for me to look through and find patterns (eg when certain values line up, it can get shortlisted so I can figure out what I want to trade)

At the moment weed is a class 1 drug which means it's considered as dangerous as heroin and it makes it extremely difficult for any companies to do business in.
They've been trying to get it rescheduled as a class 3 drug, which would put it federally into the same category as things like steroids and other things, that are still drugs but considered to have low addiction rates and medical potential.
This will open the markets a lot on a federal level, especially with medical weed and it will also drop the taxes to a federal corporate rate of 21% compared to the up to 80% effective tax rate they face now.
The profitability of these companies is going to shift from the negatives to actually making money, making them a viable value buy.
It also makes the whole thing hell of a lot easier in general for everyone from business to people.

Rescheduling is basically inevitably and will happen sooner or later, but it's been delayed multiple times as people have tried to fuck with the process.
But now the Department of Health and Human Services has given a recommendation to reschedule marijuana and no one has ever stood in their way as far as I understand.
They just need to accept the recommendation and Biden needs to okay it and there we go, weed is open for business.
People expect this rescheduling to happen before the end of the year and this is why the cannabis sector has been waking up and has had some insane volume popping up.

That's the biggest thing I'm afraid of and it's very likely they do it because it's a huge political tool and honestly they'd be retarded not to use this.
They can easily ignore the subject into January so they can milk it as an election promise the entire fucking year.
If that happens I'm sure the entire sector will just tank lower.

We do have Germany voting about it in January though and they will apparently legalize it in April no matter what, so there's that market opening up.
But of course when it comes to the crazy stock performance, only thing that really matters is the US approval.

My thoughts: Since a loss hurts you more than a win helps you (eg if you lose 10%, you have to win 11% to break even), it is important to avoid losses.
But you also often see random shitcos pop off 2, 3, 4x. If you take the reciprocal, that's 50%, 66%, and 75% decline in prices, respectively. I feel like both cases are just as likely, it's just that the 2x seems more obvious than a 1/2.

Well, and this was years ago at that, cisco's road to fame was them getting first advantage in the router space right as the internet was taking off. Kinda like Telsa or Amazon is today. Then to further cement their advantage they created the whole CCNA certification thing around it. Which when you break it down is absolute bullshit. 90-95% of the material in CCNA is covered by the Network+ certification. Which is a hell of a lot cheaper. What's the remaining 5-10%? The actual configuration of the cisco hardware. Which you pay out the ass for cause meh copyright. Back in the day configuration of the router involved command line bullshit to. no gui. So yeah.

The funny thing is that Indians by their very nature are taught to memorize things, and the CLI is the fastest way to make changes and check things, and we've outsourced all the work to them. ATT cut almost all of their Western business solutions personnel this year, migrated it all to India, South America, and Eastern EU.
Regarding the certs, the lower ones are scams, but the real money (was) in the architect type stuff. They're now laying off all of them too, and the 'New Resources' don't know any of this shit so they're fucking stuff up.
Not sure how Verizone is holding up, or T-mobile, I don't work with them. Also Cisco is being canceled for new contracts in favor of Juniper for some very large IT companies.

Xcel losing about 2 GW of power (or around 4 billion kwh this quarter) from having one of their nuclear plants down. They charge something like 10 cents per kwh so that should equate to a pretty substantial loss for them. Maybe enough to put them in the red this quarter.

If so, puts are super fucking cheap bc utilities have such a low implied volatility.... could be a real fucking lottery ticket.

IIRC streamers on Twitch in general have been making a lot less money, at least in 2023 compared to previous years. There was an event called Subtember recently and a bunch of people were whining how it was the worst one they've had in years(dozens were pretty big partners too).

That smells like a sign that even simps are getting tapped out and cannot afford to throw subs at streamers anymore. Lack of disposable income and it might reflect other markets like retail too.

hi /smg/ im doing well with core/position trading from a technical perspective but id like to add some filters based on fundamentals. I dont want to go too deep into it as i get that companies can justify changes in finances due to R&D, etc or there are industry specific metric that are ok to have but shouldnt see in other industries. My question is, can i do a quick and dirty fundamental screening to avoid bad apples? i dont need something too sophisticated just avoid red flags

yeah, general metric. so far im looking at stable revenue and net income growth, margins, debt to equity, you mention debt to cash so ill look into that. should i also be looking at cash flow? Breaking a long trend, retested the bottom and continues up, absolutely insane volume, industry changing news coming sooner or later. Getting me really excited, especially considering how this sector moves when it really gets going.
What caught my eye was that the entire sector has been accumulating, not just one or two stocks so I jumped right in. About as bottom as it can get too.
I'm actually a bit surprised about how this seems to be moving under the radar for retail.

Yeah it's an absolutely bullshit sector legally, it's mostly just about appearances and technicalities at this point.
That's also why I like the potential price explosion, because when the formalities are out of the way, this thing is pulling a moonshot and I bet that move will have a lot of staying power due to hype and attention etc..
It'll be just like how it was in Thailand. The moment it became legal, suddenly overnight every street corner had a proper weed store.
They had already been dealing it for ages and simply dropped the facade and went into the open.
Similar thing will happen here. The rush to the market is going to be incredibly fast. They just need to get loans from banks and also unfuck the tax situation and that's about it.

Last week i was reading about the spike in the repo market in 2019, mostly to see how /biz/ was epxlaining it, and a bit due to the current retard on pol who thinks covid was somehow a concealer to this.

anyway the repo is again spiking but they say it's not like 2019
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-12-05/repo-market-spikes-conjure-memories-of-september-2019-us-funding-turmoil
>The latest spike in repo lending rates is, of course, still orders of magnitude smaller than the market ructions that occurred in September 2019.

>Back then, increased government borrowing exacerbated a shortage of bank reserves that was created when the Fed stopped buying as many Treasuries and investors had to take up the slack. Overnight repo rates in funding markets — widely relied upon by Wall Street banks to fund day-to-day operations — temporarily jumped five-fold to as high as 10%.

which is exactly what Anon said in 2019
>>/biz/thread/15640970#p15652103

Let me clear some stuff up. I manage a large money market portfolio.

It is NOT a credit issue, evidenced by:
1) no change in CDS spreads for primary dealers.
2) Higher volume of GCF (cleared) and DVP (Bilateral) Repo. If this is a credit issue the volume would go DOWN

This is caused by increased UST issuances, dealers almost always finance USTs with repo. They make money on the flow, not the interest on these bonds.

Supply of repos is limited by amount available for investments at money markets and GSEs. When demand goes up, supply is very inelastic (Fed Funds sellers can't just switch to repos. Legal docs takes weeks/months to set up, among other reasons). Money Funds are have very strict mandate on weighted average maturity and weighted average life of the fund.

Strictly speaking ETFs are gambling
in general you have to define the time horizon of your bets and if you target an income or an increase of capital.
if you want an income you target holding bonds to maturity and getting dividends from stocks, and you dont care about the price of the assets on the secondary market. and with options you sell premium to morons who think they can compete against theta

if you want to increase capital, you have to speculate on prices of stocks, bonds, commodities and so on, and you can create whatever bet you want, especially with options.

the safest bet to increase capital is really holding SPY or even better nasdaq is you can stomach the volatility, which is supposed to be the case when investing for decades.

don't forget that when rates cut, there is always some downfall >>56884552, so just prepare yourself for this

Ok options is maybe not the right term, I was thinking derivatives, factor certificates specifically. I'm a fan of them because it's not really a meme contract where you bet that price will le rise in the future or you lose everything, but basically just stock price change in % * leverage.

Ofc there IS a knockout but it's usually very low unless the leverage is high. So for example for a 13x factor certificate, the knockout price is at a level where the stock needs to dump 10% from current price for it to happen

Cisco hires for TAC and Sales around the world.

TAC is technical assistance case/center. Specialized engineers that help with technical issues starting with the basic at lvl 1 up to lvl 3. Considered a specialized help desk.

Cisco equipment covers all aspects of data from wireless, voice, video, security, data center, wireless and other esoteric technologies that is used by ISP, Government, education, healthcare, transportation and many other industries.

What makes Cisco special is the interoperability with it's own equipment the code used to make the equipment work.

If you have one piece of Cisco equipment it works well with other Cisco equipment and if you run into an issue TAC will get you fixed quickly. This includes monitoring and analytic software written and maintained by Cisco.

Most if not all of their hardware is made outside of the US, but the technology or code to run them is made in the US with collaboration efforts in other countries.

Cisco also has an immense sales force across the globe and the largest groups of employees for Cisco are the TAC and Sales force.

Cisco also sub contracts with other companies to sell and maintain customer onsite equipment.

Cisco equipment is very expensive and Federal Covid money allowed for these industries to do upgrades wholesale some of the infrastructure. Now that the Covid money has been spent Cisco is looking at a slow down in sales for years to come. Their sales will plateau soon, which will mean they will start laying off. They are also dealing with competition from open source competitors, but Cisco has interoperability and monitoring software on their side.

It is well known Cisco is weak in security and Cisco VoIP is losing major business to other companies, such as Google and Microsoft.
