How did they do this? By buying BTC then printing tether to pump their own bags? Genuine question

If they’d just bought a LITTLE bitcoin instead of mocking it for a whole decade, they’d be in Saint-Tropez smashing 10’s right now but nah. The lulz.

Tether could conceivably run a modified fractional reserve- but no where near a 10%. If they stayed 65-75% backed, they would not go insolvent, but right now all they need to do is park their reserves in short-term US treasuries and cha-Ching the money rolls in while they sit on their fat American asses.

Amazing how the fud hasn't change in over a decade. Like you'd think after over 10 years of being wrong you'd get some new arguments. But nope they stick to the classics. The golden oldies.
