I'm someone with a $3 million dollar home in one of, if not the single highest, cost of living areas in the USA.

As long as the value of my home doesn't suddenly plummet I don't actually mind if there's less space or whatever. At the end of the day a home that's safe with good schools for my kid and enough space for me is all I want. I can take a vacation to Brazil every year anyway if I actually cared about making my money go far.

I have a lot of family in South Africa, and the real estate is the biggest trap that keeps them there. They'll be living in mansions with multiple full-time servants and compare that to the little unit that they could be living in here. But they don't realise two things:
>1. There are so many more factors than just the size of your house. Like being able to safely walk around alone at night.
>2. Once you move to a cheap area, its house prices will grow at a slower rate than the more expensive area. Meaning that even if you could afford to live there now, you'll be priced out from ever returning in a decade or two.

You might as well just move to Asia at that point. Nobody wants to live in South Africa like conditions where you have to ride in an armored car to go downtown or to the airport and pay armed guards and build fucking defenses and paying communist taxes and probably having to bribe other gang related officials. You want to go somewhere like Seoul or Singapore, not these backwards shitholes. That doesn’t mean America is not on a race to the bottom in quality of life.

First, such property would cost around 1 million u
US dollars, even if it's in Brazil. Second, it's not that dangerous here, at least in half of the country. 10-20% of brazilians live in favelas and 90% of murders happens in these areas. The actual murder rate in areas where 80% of people live is like 3-4 per 100k inhabitants. Still, it's not worth the trouble for anyone (except arabs, bolivians, koreans and haitians, apparently) to leave their countries to live here. Go to Uruguay, Argentina or Chile.
