This sounds impossible. The only thing preventing this is that the bond market keeps paying interest. It is twice the size of the U.S. GDP and is de-facto nothing but hot air. Once people realize the pools of capital such as banks, insurance funds are all bankrupt and real capital has been replaced with debt (via liquidity) then the price will run.
That's the counter-down timer we're all waiting for.

It's an asset needed for production. Unless the apocalyptic happens and were back in the stone age with no means of electronic production, gold will always be needed in computers. So will silver. The internet needs computers, computers need PMs. Crypto needs the internet and computers... PMs are the ultimate asset because there's guaranteed demand (again, unless of some massive solar flare happens), you can physically own and store it; and there's a limited supply.

You have an asset with thousands of years of economic history behind it. Scrutinize any investment hard enough and nothing is truly safe. Stock markets and real estate can all be corrupted or volatile. My faith in silver and gold comes from how solid they are and that they’ve been manipulated in the other direction compared to the commodities that will evaporate under a real depression.

The entire history of gold and silver on top of all the fiat systems that lose all their purchasing power. You can get a gold coin and give it to your children and it will still maintain its purchasing power when you brought it. Precious metals are real money, not arcade tokens like central bank paper notes.

Read this from the FT:

https://archive.is/3ZxxC

It's hilarious how the author tries her best to constantly dismiss the claims about fiat currency having a shelf life of 27 years, yet never goes into detail why hyperinflation has happened or the smoke and mirrors of a debt jubilee with a currency switch. The art of propaganda is to highlight the faults and obscure the proof.

modern coins, bullion coins, and coins made just for collectors, as well as collectable rounds may or may not go up faster than metals. But if they're PM's, they're going to go at least as high as metals do.

I've already seen the price move by a cent or two at best during closes. $100+ is completely unheard of. Then huge tamp effort to shut it down? lol

Something big took place tonight, sadly we probably will never have an explanation for this event, or 15 years from now during yet another trial for PMs manipulation.
Was it an attempt at trying tonlight up the fireworks by rogue participants? A big settlement to close a position? A message sent? These things do not happen b merely by chance, not on a 10 trillions usd, tightly controlled market.

>I was wondering if they were lathe marks on a die or planchet or if they had some other use?

Those divots are ubiquitois on the larger Ptolemaic bronzes from Egypt but their exact purpose isn't known with absolute certainty. The planchets were cast and then had to be smoothed/flattened before striking, many coins show concentric rotary lines in weakly struck areas, so the divots could be from being clamped in a lathe-like device. The divots often don't line up though, and since bigboi coins were often struck several times to get a full impression I think the marks could have been left by a sort of pin in the dies that would have helped prevent movement of the planchet and unsightly doubling. Not the greatest enigma of the ancient world but it is fun to think about the various unanswered questions ancient coins bring forth.

I think some collectors have spent a lot of time specifically studying those holes and the different apparent parts or sections of the pin or peg or whatever that made them but I dunno offhand what those most studied of divot-autists have concluded lol. I personally think they were a removable part of the dies but will probably never know 100%, those fuzzy edges of our modern understanding helps make ancients sexy and mysterious.

that makes sense. Anchor the coin to the die when you need to, pull the pin when it's not needed.

I'm autistic like that, I just want to know how things were made. Modern tokens usually have a bump in the center but in that case I believe it's a tiny divot from the lathe spindle on the face of the die. Before the die was stamped or carved, they'd polish the whole thing on a lathe which left a small dent in the center of the die face and then concentric rings on the face of the thing. Easy to spot on cheap tokens, but never present on official US coins.

There's also the problem that we mine the two metals at a ratio of something like 10:1 and then sell them at a price of ~80:1

the price does not reflect actual supply. Nor should it, since they have different uses. But silver at that price presumably will run out at some point.

this is not to say we'll run out of silver

just that we'll run out of silver AT THAT PRICE.

we'll "find" more silver, it's just going to cost more. If prices reflected production right now, and gold was at $2k dollars, silver would be at $200 per ounce right now. There are a few good reasons it's not that high yet, but it's easy to imagine it going that high (inflation adjusted) in the next 50 years if we keep on as we are now.

Historical precedent, known market suppression and speculative global green energy market. While I'm not a silver cultist, I know from my own research that the value of silver exploding in the future isn't unfounded.

Historic Precedent:
Gold/Silver ratio 15 to 1. Now the Gold/Silver ratio is around 80 to 1.

Market Suppression:
Derivatives are used to suppress price to calm market spikes and for the scum that own these markets like LME to get metals at a cheap fiat price.

Speculative Global Green Energy:
Demand is outstripping supply. We need more of everything at an increasing rate, but prices don't budge because places like the Comex fill up the registered pile of silver from the eligible pile of silver whenever there's a annual silver mining deficit.

If we stopped using silver right now, it would hit $500 per ounce in 50 years off inflation alone. If we mined an exponentially increasing supply of silver to meet the growing demands of technology, it would be at $500 per ounce in 50 years off inflation alone.

those things aren't possible. Assuming our usage and production ratio remains exactly as it is right now, silver should easily hit $5k per ounce in 50 years. That also is probably impossible. Or at least extremely optimistic. What's more likely is our population will continue to grow, and poor people will continue to get richer and buy more silver products at the same time that we're running out of good silver deposits to mine. Meaning silver is likely to go much higher than $5k per ounce over the next 50 years. Assuming no replacements of silver technologies, and no nanobot mining of silver, that stuff is going to become worth as much as gold at some point. Maybe more.

but even that is less than a 100x in real gains over a period of 50 years, which is a great investment and a piss poor business.

if silver is the same price as gold in 50 years it should be closer to $50k/oz just based on the last 50 years of inflation in USD:gold

It sounds stupid, but so does $2k gold to someone in 1964. Or $50k salaries to someone that made $2600 per year back then. Or $500k houses to someone that lived in a $12k house at the time.

this stuff has already happened. It just happened before you were born so you don't see it.

Everything I described is just what boomers have already seen happen. I've seen houses in my town do a 100x in just 40 years. The view that silver can't or won't do the same seems naive to me. The only reason boomers aren't all in on silver is because we're old enough to know you're probably not going to make it off a 100x that takes a lifetime to deliver. We've mostly found better hustles than that.

I mean say you buy $10k worth of silver right now. 400 ounces. Toss it in a closet and it does a 100x real value over the next 50 years.

Congratulations, you now have a million dollars in today dollars. You're rich.

you're also 80 years old, and barely have enough to retire on. You got the very bare minimum. Like you're going to be eating a lot of bologna sandwiches and ramen. Mac and cheese, not a lot of eating at restaurants or traveling the world. And you'll be dead soon.

you guys find the idea of silver over $2500/oz in 50 years super exciting. Old people would just find it depressing. It's probably not enough. Aim higher. Stack more. Try other things.

Its interesting that they dismiss the idea of gold backed currencies in general due to the "logistics" of transporting gold internationally lol.

Like so many financial articles, it give you some real info, but leads you to an assumption that's counter to the most plausible reality.

Why would you tell people to buy sovereigns and to only buy the silver with higher premiums? Is this some sorta financial advisor type crap?

What in the hell kind of shilling is going on here lately? Not even Bob would say something that boomer tier retarded. Stocks and bonds... GTFO. Many of us are turning Internet funny money into PMs so we don't get dragged down and fucked with everyone else when the inflated stock and bonds markets go to shit. Oh and sovereigns are ugly AF anyway. Most people would think they were fake coins. You could at least suggest krugs along with collecting your vanguard fees.

It's going to be at least another year but probably longer in my opinion. They haven't even started up with their crypto etfs yet. They've still got some printing and stealing to do, and of course, there's always war or something else to distract everyone. They may necessarily be forced to allow PM prices to rise a bit though in the interim, but I don't think that should dissuade anyone from stacking.

Ya, most people who start reading about international finance quickly see how terrible it really is and conclude that it will HAVE to crumble any day now. The banks know it's all BS as well, but the banks and governments all across the planet will necessarily suffer together when that happens, so there is the full power of nations and every international bank and corp behind keeping the system in place for as long as possible. You can get an idea of some of the tricks they use, but no one knows which specific ones they're going to use week by week/month or when exactly calendar wise. You have to operate under the premise that yes, it will collapse, but like Jesus's returning or the Yellowstone caldera blowing, none of us commoners will know exactly when lol.

I personally think everyone should purchase food, energy, and shelter preps before spending their fiat on PMs, but that's not really on topic.

The European Union voted in 1999 to abolish VAT on investment gold. Many countries offered minimal levels of VAT as an incentive to buy in their nation. The UK, which did charge VAT, was losing out because of this, as were other nations. To combat this disparity the EU moved make Europe an equal playing field and scrap VAT on investment gold.

why not other bullion? perhaps ill-considered, perhaps a conspiracy is afoot.
