look we may want to help him, but my approach is obviously gonna be different from yours. Islam is a framework that contains a bunch of things that would address the mult-faceted shit he is dealing with. You asked why I didn't give him specific advice, well I did try but my take on it is that he's old enough to be able to take action on his own but his framework for life is kinda fucked up.
the things you rightly bring up, like patriarchy and feminism and addiction, are all things that Islam does already cover. so to me, it feels like an all-in-one pill that he can just take and it can start helping him in a practical sense and in a very visible way, *if* he wants to implement it. like I have said, it's a religion of action.

While I would agree that taking some positive action and finding faith would be a net gain for anyone I prefer giving them the option to choose for themselves what that faith should be. If I hadn't been allowed to be non-religious I never would've willingly accepted it. I'd wager making that choice for somebody and thrusting your own faith upon them is what's actually getting pushback, but in saying that there's worse things than being assertive and trying to guide the lost.
