Every HWW with a secure element is closed source.

And the ones that don't have a secure element are easily hacked.

If you don't save it here or on any hardware wallet, which wallet will you do so?
Okay you can opt for self custody like Metamask, Tokenpocket, and even KIMBERLITE wallet which is building something super solid.

I for one don't feel comfortable keeping my coins a glorified USB drive. What if I lose it? What if it dies or breaks? What if I forget my seed phrase?

I keep all my crypto on Coinbase. Hardware wallets are overrated/ Just make sure you have a s trong passowrd + google authenticator 2FA.

>> No.56761724

That's why you use strong cryptography to protect your seed phrases and maybe even have a paper backup but don't keep your big wallets online at all. The blockchain itself is the data storage layer.

Ledger is closed source and proprietary.
Two words that are poison to security.
Cold wallet, or Trezor, followed by TailsOS, then virtual machine, then old cell phone, then the retarded responses.

It has not, the company said they won't extract your keys without consent but the sole possibility that your keys can be extracted at all makes the device trust based, just a step above having your cryptos on an exchange.

Whats the move then? My workflow back in the day was
>buy on exchange
>tx out to software wallet (blockchain.info)
>tx out to paper wallet made offline with walletgenerator
Then at sell time I just went straight into the exchange.
I'm just thinking of the security layers, for instance, the exchange email is personalized with authenticator 2fa, the exchange account is 2fa, the software wallet is personalized and has it's own 2fa, nothing uses email or phone number authentication etc.
Thus your biggest security hole is in the cold storage, that your private at some point in the process is leaked.
Is it worth splitting a large amount into several wallets of smaller amounts? Does it make a practical difference
Paper wallets still a good way to hold mass amounts of crypto? Assume that I can assure the safety of keys/words.
A long time ago I didn't really care but now that it's muh sicks figs I'm really worried all the time that I'm missing something and my coins are vulnerable.

It's up to you. I couldn't sleep at night knowing that Ledger was forcing a potential vulnerability into their firmware. I finally ate the whole shit sandwich and moved all my ctypto to a Trezor. I ended up paying a hefty fee because I'd been DCA'ing BTC for many years. But at least my UTXOs are consolidated and I can rest easy knowing that Ledger has no access to my keys.

>> No.56763502

i'm so happy i bought a trezor instead, who in their right mind would continue using a ledger, it's closed source and they already said they could extract your seed from your device, you would have to be a big retarded boi to keep using it after that mess, are you guys gonna risk hundreds of thousands in crypto just because you don't want to buy another cold wallet for a hundred bucks? retaaard
