It also made the most sense economical, when you own the house you live and make business in you have a huge advantage to renters

In covid, renting restaurants were the first to go down, the ones owning their location are still here

I had a chance 5 years back to buy a 2 story home like this in a rare residential / commercial zoning. But the homeless had taken over and it was near a paint factory. It was only 270k too. The thought of having to defend my business at night from zombies doesn’t sound so good. This would have been great 100 years ago.

Yes this is a great way of business. You must know though that Boomers did not throw it away. Their parents threw it away and Boomers grew up and went along with it. Then later on some Boomers realized that something was wrong with that they were doing.

Boomers are exceptionally stupid. My mom and her siblings inherited 23 acres of developed land and a 4 bedroom 2 bath house. Found a realtor on facebook. The realtor lady told them it was worth at least $370K. They put $12K into a new ac. Put $8K into a new driveway. Realtor offers to buy the entire estate for $250K. Of course, boomers accept. No appraisal was done. After all costs they made like $180K, then paid taxes on that amount and distributed the money between the 4 heirs. They sold my grandpa's life work for 25% of its value. One heir is paying off a Honda CRV. One is putting the cash into a mutual fund that Dave Ramsey promoted. One is giving it to his grown daughters who live in NY and never see him (it will cover less than a year's rent in NY and is split two ways) and my mom is going to put her portion into new carpeting and new appliances. The property value was north of $800K. They all got scammed. The realtor split the acreage into 52 lots and are charging $19K per lot. That's a million dollars. Some fat facebook realtor lady just cleaned up. My mom and her sibilings deserve it, too. The stupidity. My Grandpa always said "A fool and his money are soon parted." He also told my mom that the property could take care of her and the siblings for life. He looked out for them and they threw it away like it was trash.

I have a similar story. My friend's aunt inherited a huge sum of money from his uncle's life insurance payout and spent the money on paying off the house. Good right? Well, now the kids (friends cousins) are adults and paying are $2500 a month renting from Jews because the Aunt sold off the property to fund her travel lifestyle. Leaving her kids with nothing.

It's amazing that certain generation of people have the audacity to take everything the previous generation worked for and leave the next generation not only with nothing, but most likely liabilities from having to go into debt to sustain themselves. All the while the 'boomers' had the most opportunity out of any generation and still remotely sound money. If you were born in 45-65 and weren't completely stupid anything you did made millions of dollars even as simply as buying a house.

Time and again they abandon their parents into care homes and liquidate all their generational assets to fund short term hedonism. Our culture needs to be completely destroyed so the few remaining strong can restart from the beginning.

Because there was no certainty about when restrictions would be lifted. It made more sense to close business before debts piled up, and maybe reopen later. We should have gone into total lockdown for 3-4 weeks to smoke out cases early on, and then locked down borders until the rest of the world caught up. Drawing it out made it exponentially worse even if you don't believe the virus itself was that bad.

>> No.56757906

Duh. Have you not paid attention to demographics? Suburbs are cancerous and wasteful but the truth is I'd rather live in a cookie cutter McMansion and have to drive everywhere than risk my life in a city packed with "peaceful" refugees and/or ni- er, I mean, "socioeconomic factors." And most people feel the same way even if they won't admit it. Boomers were just trying to make sure they and their children would grow up in a safe environment.
