It makes sense for me to do it now though. I can either claim it as income with a zero cost basis when I sell, or I can claim it as income now and the rest as capital gains. Since it'll probably be over a year before I sell, I'll get a 50% discount on the capital gains portion.
I just wish the price would dump for one second when I migrate, because that way I won't have to pay as much tax now and will get a bigger discount in the future.
