I am bearish the economy, for the next year or so at least. I am not bullish stocks. Stocks seem hellbent on the idea that the money printer is coming back, and real rates are coming down. Gold seems to agree too or it'd be a hell of a lot lower.

It's much easier to just go long 2years on the general thesis that inflation is done and the economy is going to be in the shitter soon. Maybe stocks hold through that until the Fed finances stimmies for Biden to buy his re-election, maybe they don't, idfk.

Easier to be out of the way of that mess entirely and bet on things which are just a matter of 'when' not 'if'.

GME is actually an interesting case study. Ignoring all the memeshit about it, it was shorted by 140% of the float. Everyone piled into deep OTM longdated calls forcing market makers to buy shares to offset their risk, inflating the price, and triggering a short squeeze. Melvin Capital and others were shorting it from $40 to $4 and had no risk management or stop losses in place. Even if the price shot back up to $20, they could've closed their shorts and made out like bandits but they didn't and paid the price. There were big winners and big losers on all sides of the market

Doug? Yeah probably. I've been there for 8 years for better or for worse. But WMT is always about economy of scale and cutting costs. Wages are probably the biggest operational cost for us; hence why WMT wants to use technology to automate things. Why pay three or four people $12/hr to change price labels every week (and they have additional overhead beyond that!), when you can pay a one-time fee to have electronic labels automatically change? Stuff like that.

I think the price dropped from a combination of taking profits and outperforming this quarter, eg it's a snapback to reality and pricing in a softer Q4 for us. Most of our profits come from Q4 and hard goods, though the other quarters had good growth in online/grocery sales due to recessionary pressures. We'll be competing with other vendors for Christmas bucks for sure, consumers are price sensitive and looking for deals, which will hurt our revenue in those categories, but at the same time if our margins are wide on those items, we can probably afford to have sales and protect our revenue that way.

Either way, I think today's sell (while justified), is probably more intense than it needed to be. I'm confident we'll have support around the 160-164 level again in a few weeks/months, provided some (((outside factors))) don't shit the economy

Retail and organized theft is up; even though this impacts our bottom line, wages are still the biggest controllable expense.
I know it sounds silly, but shutting down the 4 Chicago/Detroit(?) stores is bullish because they were unprofitable due to the demographics there and rampant theft. Company closes the store, leases or sells the land, moves on to profitable ventures. This will actually free of millions of dollars long term. Not sure what the sunk cost is, but at least it's not bleeding money anymore.
That's just the nature of the business, and what home office will do to cut costs

Oil sisters, I think this might be the most interesting thing you see all week. This is WTI futures vs gold all time. Currently 10% from resistance that was briefly pierced for 3 months in 2016 Q1 and obviously the covid crash.
If gold doesn't go down, we're probably at a bottom for oil. Lines up pretty much exactly with the CL chart

I just autisticly went through my 401k sector options, and the only sector that has beat gold in the lifespan of it's equivalent ETF is tech. 100% of the 2% outperformance of the S&P vs gold since 06 (etf dates) has come from the tech sector.
I think a lot of that was just luck with tech already having been low still from the dot com crash, so it got giga pumped when QE kicked in.

Very strange to me that energy did not beat gold with dividends reinvested. Goes to show you how hard it is to deal with volatility.

I started trading 3 years ago and I still have a long way to go before I'm net profitable. But in that time I educated myself on the industry and I was considering getting my CSC (Canadian Securities Certification) within a year. I can probably take the test today with no formal study, it only has a 60% requirement to pass (and costs $1300). No idea what I'd want to do with it.

That said, Walmart owns a bank that it uses for mastercard transactions. It was previously a Schedule II bank (deposit-accepting, foreign owned) but in the last few months there was some dealings between companies and it became a Schedule I bank (deposit-accepting, domestic). I think the financial side of Walmart is understated and worth looking into as a career path.

It'll be interesting to see what the business units and financial implications of all that shit is behind the scenes. Hell, there's like 40 subsidiaries that WMT owns and includes shit like gas stations and convenience stores, with 70% of the revenue coming from the US

Just remember that a 10% loss hurts you more than a 10% gain helps you (if you gain 10%, you only need to lose 9%, and if you lose 10% you have to gain 11%). Protecting your downside is the most important thing you can do.

I lost 12k in trades over 3 years, which works out to about $300 a month (approx 20% of my NW). I might have participated in one of the biggest bull runs in history, but I was also stubborn with holding my losers on the way back down. No risk management, bad position sizing, no limits, no net strategy.
But I'd argue that I'm doing okay now, since instead of blowing $200 on a single trade, I can do a string of 10 trades and only lose $100. Most of my current losses come from fees, which I am working around (eg trading etfs rather than individual tickers). (previously it was options, fees, and holding onto losers and after it blew past a reasonable SL level)
It's also good to get my losses out of the way now, while I can afford to learn and take risks. I'd rather lose 20% of my account when it's $50k, than when I have $600k, or start trading someone else's money.

I don't think one really outperforms the other so much as it's just a question of which regime you are in. Really everything just follows money supply, but depending on inflation levels money flows either to commodities or else to stuff like growth.

And 2010s were a highly disinflationary period, largely due to lowering labor and energy costs. Shale oil killed oil and pumped the shit out of tech for a decade with low inflation and rates.

Already pretty obvious 2020s are going to be another inflationary decade.

I'm always happy to shill No Nonsense Forex (NNFX) on youtube. He's got a good mix of trading videos, psychology podcast, and TA stuff. But it really does come down to having the right mindset and process.

What they recommended is that you risk no more than 2% losses (I do 1%) on a single trade, because you if you are a career trader, you will be trading for a long time and you cannot afford to have one bad trade ruin your account.
The way this works is that you look at the ATR of the symbol (think of that as your directional exposure/delta instead) and buy as many shares as it takes to match that.
So as an example, if you had an $8,500 account, and wanted to do a swing trade on UUUU (long or short), 2% risk is $170 and it has an ATR of 0.3768. You take 170 / ATR and it works out to 451 shares.
You can take profit at 1x ATR and stop losses at 1.5x ATR. In the case of UUUU long, this would be 8.65 and 7.72; depending on your system and how you tweak it, you can set a trailing stop or sell half and move the SL to break even once it moves past 1x ATR profit, etc.
The most important thing is to have a system, never break the rules you set for yourself, and hold your winners and cut your losers

Ok so I think soon a key part of the Govt's case against the Jblu-Save merger will be knocked down. Once that happens then the case is essentially game over. Govt lawyers won't have a leg legally to hang over the merger anymore. So I think a settlement will happen. Allows everyone to save face. Govt lawyers will say "ok if you divest these routes you can merge" Which Jblu is already doing that anyway so it won't affect them any. Another thing the govt lawyers is harping; They say once the merger happens then JBlu will jack prices. This is a non starter. Cause frankly if the merger is denied nothing prevents both JBlu and Save from jacking prices anyway. Same applies to other airlines; nothing prevents them from jacking prices. Also prices will get jacked at some point, just how it is.

So it could be something as simple as only selling puts with a .20-.25 delta with 30-40 DTE and the position of the stock is rather good do to X, Y, and Z, etc... If it doesn't fit your rules then you simply don't trade it, there's other sustainable trades elsewhere just comes down to sticking to your guns and not falling into FOMO.
As for getting good at selling options, I would suggest doing something really basic to get a handle on it like the Wheel strategy, and then work towards things like spreads when you have more capital.

>>56689657
I have full access kek but you can buy options and sell CSP's and CC's. Other than that everything else is pretty much locked out.

>but I just need to find a thing that gives me consistent gains
This is will be a constant challenge till you can figure out what works best on your part. So my general advice is get good at one kind of trade, focus on the mechanics of that kind of trade, develop rules around that method, and follow it as much as possible. And when you've mastered it spider out with those foundations.
>Even had a credit spread get assigned early and fuck up my trade
I love credit spreads but I only would trade them on SPX, RUT, NDX, etc since index options can't be assigned early. Furthermore since they're Euro style options they also have better tax treatment which helps.

DNS stands for Domain Name System. The internet runs on computers and servers and shit having numeric IP addresses (e.g. 104.18.236.77) but users want to type in domain names (e.g .4channel.org). DNS is how your computer maps what you type in -> numbered servers out there in the great beyond.
