2017 was the best, by 2021 there were already tens of thousands of alts and a billion onchain pnd scams and money spread too thin and people were getting rugged left and right.
2017 at least had some semi legit coins that didn't look like scams on first glance so most of the stuff you bought was an easy 100x.
