the fed (the banking cartel) and the US treasury focus entirely on bond activity. they care about maintaining the dollar's status; everything they do is in order to shove DXY around to achieve current political goals.
still, at the fed they do check gold's price, after the fact. both greenspan and bernanke were known to track what it was doing, because it is (or was, not sure if this still is true) an early indicator of whether their policy was having the intended effect; they don't need to suppress it, but they care if it follows as would be expected, up or down.
and this was due to how arbitrage works; for example if people want to buy gold in the US to sell it in japan then its USD price is going to go up. forex doesn't indicate like this because its too large of a market with too many interested parties, plus it has no connection back to physical reality. "lots" are just an idea and wins/losses are settled in accounting entries in computers.
but, gold is poured into real bars, and is really shipped or smuggled around the world, when real geopolitical effects take place.
