>> No.56613258

Looks like Gary is giving up on miners and everyone will be selling at a loss. I still am in awe how he told us we were going to avoid the bloodbath. How we don't want to be holding when it happens. How we want to buy at the bottom instead. Then he tells us to buy. The very next day he predicts a bloodbath, but instead of saying to sell, he insists it wouldn't affect us. When it is clear it will after day 2, he still tells us to hold through. Finally it bottoms and wow what a surge, too bad it did nothing but break everyone even. If we did buy at that bottom, we would still be up. Now instead of selling with a 10-15% gain, now we sell at a 3% loss. I wish he stopped being so egotistical and change plans when new factors kick in. Instead he tells everyone to calm down for 4 days then when everyone's fears come true "alright, looks like we need a change of plans".

since we're talking about the history of mining, i'm curious for your perspective: obviously the easiest surface deposits have long been picked off as we've been mining for multiple millennium. even the off the beaten path deposits have been mined by now. what's the future of mining? we're already using new technology to go deeper and get more out of past deposits but what happens when that runs out? are there any true tier 1 deposits left?

we havent found every near surface deposit, but they are getting harder to locate. The future of mining is in the far north in my opinion, baffin island, greenland and the arctic circle to be precise. The south pole is loaded with resources too, but good luck ever operating a mine there.
Africa (if the continent ever gets its shit figured out) is also loaded with resources yet to plunder. We have at least 250 plus more years of surface exploration to go before we start looking at super deep deposits.
>>56626248
That isnt all fudd, permitting and building a road is a very expensive and time consuming project, one that often kills off a project before it gets off the ground. Look at what happened recently to Eskay Resources and their coop plan with Seabridge Gold for a branch exploration road to their properties from KSM. Its costs ballooned rapidly, to the point Eskay couldnt uphold their end of the deal. Its not a deal breaker right now, but lets see what the costs to build snowline's project into a real mine looks like in 5 years.

>> No.56626506

There are all sorts of videos out there floating around prospecting circles from the Amazon and the southern mountain belts showing incredible mineral deposits, stuff like diamonds the size of golf balls being picked out of termite mounds or placer gold strikes that make the Yukon rush look small. The issue is their all secret or illegal operations, the big guys get to the spots months or years after the wildcat miners are done with it.

>> No.56626517

>>56626488
The rule of thumb I've heard for regular city and suburban roads is they cost about a million dollars a mile.
Mining in a very out of the way place, perhaps in a cold climate like the far north, would cost huge money just for road access. Hundreds of millions of dollars, perhaps, because the road has to be well built and well maintained for all the heavy trucking that will be traversing it.

>> No.56626538

>>56626506
Awesome info.
I agree, we have centuries to go before the surface exploration is all done and by then, ultra deep mining may be feasible on both land and in the oceans.
And if we're talking centuries, then yeah, even asteroid mining may be a thing. I know people like to mock it, like that Psyche asteroid, but on a long enough timeline, who knows!

So the fud about us running out of resources anytime soon is just that: fud.

>> No.56626548

>>56626517
bingo, your not looking at hundreds of millions, but well in the tens of millions for sure, not counting the eco investigative work and "consultations" you have to do now with local groups to get the OK to start building. A road in northern Quebec was recently shot down if memory serves because the Inuit population would have to cross it to hunt, apparently their incapable of walking over a hump in the flat landscape but oh well.

Its not cheap building anything in the far north over all, so expect a steep bill and at minimum half a decade of preprep work.

It's complicated. They get major tax breaks, preferential hiring, if they choose to live on a reserve the gov't gives the reserve money so they can sort of live off that if it isn't corrupt, they can fish & hunt whenever whereever sort of deal (they have special licenses).

It really is that they're just "sticking it to the white man", and of course some are just naturally contrarian and belligerent. 70% of native americans polled support the natural resource industry because it gives them job opportunities.

So, yet again, the vocal minority ruins it for anyone who gives a fuck.

GLAFT / GLO gonna moon this week, me thinks. Canadian uranium company with a major mine in Niger.

Down big since the Niger coup, though the coup ended up not being a big deal. But they struggled to get financing, especially since the US designation of a coup complicated that process.

The stock halted on Friday while news came out that they had specifically been given an exemption, allowing them to receive financing from US banks. This is a big deal, both in how it derisks the project, but also the message behind it - that the US REALLY wants this project to go ahead.

Still needs to rally around +40% to get back to where it was before the coup (after already being up +55% from it's lows in August). This would bring GLATF up to around $2.20. It then ALSO needs to rally hard to catch up to it's peers, which are only continuing to go up, which I would estimate puts GLATF being around $3 (at least).

It's habbening.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Someday, when we need it, Antarctica will be mined.
A few trillion in investment over ten years would make mining possible there.
Even special-built railroad haulage may work there, since much of Antarctica is technically a desert and gets very little snow.
Perhaps not in our lifetimes, but I do think Antarctica will be mined when the time comes.

if your interested in super deep mining, the best place to try would be on the mid atlantic ridges, or the subduction zones along the Ring of Fire. There was an idea in the early 60s to setup massive deep sea platforms with protected casements which would act as head frames for deep mineral exploration, but it never got further than the drawing board.

Also drilling core through ice is a massive headache. If your drilling on a glacier for example, your drill stem bends with the slow moving action of the glacier, so if your not careful, the stem will snap. You cant redrill those holes either as the ice moves too much to ID where your bits end will be.

There is also a really interesting idea from the 50s on how to do deep mantle exploration using a massive amount of explosives / heat, a massive high grade iron deposit and a nuclear powered probe. The theory is that you detonate a huge explosion that melts the iron into a big old slug, then have the probe follow the molten metal down on its way into the mantle. It sounds bad if you haven't been following the news out of Niger, but it became clear in September that this wasn't going to explode into some major conflict The junta has no beef with Global Atomic, and no one is looking for war. All things considered, it's really not a big deal (nor is it abnormal for the country). The only group it was bad for was the French, who pretty much everyone in that area hates.

I think the reason GLATF is so enticing is because the downside is so relatively small, while the upside is so obviously large. It is not unreasonable to expect this to 2x by EOY.

>>56637269
Supposedly they have enough $ to coast for a year while they work out the remaining financing of their project. This uncertainty was a bigger risk than the coup itself, IMO.

The news on Friday removed that risk in a big way. The US signaled that they want this project to be financed, assumingly because they don't want China to do it. They will get financed within 3-4 months, I think.

>And if we're talking centuries, then yeah, even asteroid mining may be a thing.
I mean we could basically do asteroid mining today it's just the cost would be absolutely insane especially the capex and risk of delay/disaster, which is why it's a joke to ever bring it up in the context of company/deposit valuation. It's not all that much harder than, say, going to the moon or launching a satellite fully out of the solar system, both of which we have done. Most of the energy cost is in getting the material from LEO down to the surface of earth, though, so most likely we'd use it as a material source for manufacturing in space or on the moon (either because we want to build space stuff in-situ or because we want to do zero-g manufacturing) - after that infrastructure was in place I imagine we'd also start dragging in the occasional asteroid that has something rare in it that's annoying to gather on earth, at which point we might finally start tanking the value of specific somewhat unusual commodities like platinum or osmium, maybe to the point where we find exciting new uses for them. Anyway, yeah, figuring out the mid/long-term future prediction for northern / arctic / antarctic / asteroid mining is probably that we work out way up that curve in small painful steps, and jump to asteroids when our investment in space infrastructure enables it, rather than because we decided the next increment of slightly more difficult earth mining was the final straw.

Your first main problem is where to store it. In most towns you can't just store scrap metal anywhere visible in a residential area. So we're talking fences at the very least, with sheds or warehouses being the best bet. You'll need to own the land, nobody wants to rent their land out to a scrap metal business because of environmental concerns. These are also your problem even if you own the land. There's a good chance your land will be contaminated with various hazardous substances which will be your problem to clean up.

once you have storage figured out, you need transportation. Most of the stuff you're thinking of like appliances aren't worth transporting because the fuel and time to move them cost a lot more than they sell for. But if you live near a scrap buyer it might work.

The actual money is in stuff like aluminum, copper, lead, platinum, electronics. But that's very specialized stuff. Usually cars are the best source for that kind of scrap, but good luck storing and processing thousands of cars to scrap.

another decent source is jobsites and industrial sites. Those guys waste a lot of copper and sometimes aluminum. But again, they've got companies offering to haul their stuff off all the time.

Your best bet if you want to get into selling scrap is to do it as a tax loss, since it's very easy to lose money on. But that means you need taxes to offset. Like thousands of dollars, maybe millions. You basically want to be a millionaire BEFORE you start up a business that loses that much money.

Doing outby labor you have to lift 80-100 pound logs repeatedly, while stooped down sometimes if the coal seam is lower, and carry them 30 feet to the post or crib you're setting, and you do it fast paced. I know miners who drink almost a gallon of water during an 8 hour shift from all the sweating.

Also, you might be swinging a sledgehammer to demolish cement walls to control airflow, or carrying 80 pound solid cement blocks to build walls like a block mason.

Coal mining is very heavy work, at least for many of the positions in a mine.

Roof bolting is also extremely hot, being next to the roof bolter machine, and fast paced.

at the end of the day you have to look at your time in the project. Chances are you'll make a couple bucks per load doing that after you subtract out gas, but is a couple bucks worth the time and effort for you personally?

I do it a different way. I already work on industrial jobsites, and my clients pile stuff up for me to take to the lot. Since I have to drive a truck to and from the job site anyways, I might as well haul off some metal to sell while I'm there.

for appliances and such, you have to pay to get rid of them where I live, so I offer to take them for free on the condition that the owner drive them to my location. Saves me on gas, saves them on dump fees. Some of the stuff works fine and I just craigslist it as is.

This used to be considered settled science and only in the days of wokeism and faggotry is this even a debate.

They have different brain structures, folding in their brains, lower iqs, different blood types for fucks sake, lower impulse control.

It's literally a different species and people aren't seeing the man behind the curtain. They even have their own diseases thay effect only them like sickle cell anemia. ITS A DIFFERENT FUCKING SPECIES. HELLO.

then explain the Tulsa massacre a town called Black Wall Street. if you're so confident that blacks would've remained in mudhuts in America the people and the government wouldn't have devoted so much energy to destroy what they were building.
>>56654774
you think majority of Indians/Chinese/South Americans are living in luxury? everyone that comes here from a shit hole is looking for a better life. the real Africans act the same as the Indians or Chinese. that's why you see Jamal/tyrone and rarely see otubawaba chabatobi on the news for crime
>>56654783
no it's saying that blacks are hard workers. again look at Tulsa. proof of hard working blacks building a community outside of slavery. next.
>>56654786
again successful black communities have been built regardless of whatever brain folding disease article you read. You can't destroy people for 200 years and expect them to be on the same level as everyone else in 50.

>>56654789
yeah dude the triangle trade was just for fun lol...

listen I'm a pretty reasonable individual. I'd be more open to these views if they weren't so incredibly biased lol. not a single one of you acknowledges that what happened to blacks in this country has affected their development. not one faithful argument. blacks are responsible for their own actions today and shouldn't play the victim/race card anymore but to sit there and say that they'd be in the exact same position if there was no KKK, Jim Crowe, Segregation, Red lining, CIA drug injections is complete non-sense.

This year the US is on track to produce about exactly as much coal as was produced last year, so the decline seems to be stopping.
But from what I've heard from industry guys, more coal could be produced -- there is demand for it -- if the mines could find enough people.
A lot of coal miners have left in the past decade of downsizing and a new generation of miners hasn't fully picked up the slack. We need new blood in coal mining.
