>the full effects of our tightening have yet to be felt
>continuing to reduce our securities holdings
>economic activity is well above expectations -- goes against goal of tightening
>labor demand still exceeds the supply of workers -- more layoffs
>inflation remains well above goal of 2%, with a LONG way to go
>longer term inflation remains well anchored -- said in a positive way and I have trouble parsing this, he liked 5.1% 20yr?
>restrictive stance of monetary policy is putting downward pressure on economic activity and inflation
>sustainably down to 2%, and remain restrictive until it is clear we are trending to that objective
>evidence of growth significantly above potential (muh giant green dildos) could warrant further tightening of policy
>additional policy firming may be appropriate but will be data driven
>reducing inflation is likely to require a period of below potential growth and softening labor market conditions
>we're not confident yet that policy is tight enough to achieve long term 2% objective
>we're attentive to increases in longer term yields above 2% which have contributed to a tightening of broader financial conditions since the summer -- ok this is probably the only signal I get that long term yields might be a little too spicy at >5%
>these tighter conditions could weigh on future rate decisions
>but these tighter conditions would need to be PERSISTENT
>not fluctuating back and forth
>"AND THAT REMAINS TO BE SEEN"!
>"THE LONGER TERM RATES THAT HAVE MOVED UP CAN'T SIMPLY BE A RESPONSE TO EXPECTED POLICY MOVES FROM US"!!
>"THAT IF WE DIDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH THEN THOSE RATES WOULD COME BACK DOWN" !!!
>"it does not appear that an expectation of higher near term rates is causing the increase in long term rates"!!!! -- he either read the situation wrong or has yellen setting him up for a hike
>bank failures in the spring were only worth 1/4 point in rates

and then minutes later Yellen reduced long dated bond sales (which reduced rates)

Chinks are cutting interest rates doing CNY 1T stimulus and they banned leverage shorting imo most of the risks are gone at this point. Only a Taiwan invasion remans which is unlikely imo.

i've got a order ticket showing initial margin which is obviously my premium on a buy. but it's also showing a maintenance margin?

why? when buying options you can only lose the value of the premium and can't lose more than your buy price.

I do much more investing than trading so I don't have any really good resources for you, but I do have one tip. Watch out for people who talk about price candles in ways that don't make sense.

For example, opening or closing above or below some line on the chart. A price candle is just a range of prices that have been paid over the last arbitrary time period. If you change the time period the opens and closes all change so that kind of talk is basically just nonsense. There's a lot of it in the trading education space so be careful.

He then proceeded to sit directly in the middle of all the temp workers who are working on one of the biggest jobs of the year. If this knocks out a bunch of temps because of this, I don't think anyone will forgive him. He should have stayed his ass home. He's also the first guy to say "if you're sick stay the hell away from me". I like the guy but Jesus Christ way to be wreckless. Don't lie about that shit.

ok, so it is a futures option. with stock options, if you are buying the option with your own cash, there isn't any margin requirement, and the most you can lose is whatever you paid for the option

i'm not educated on futures options, but if they're like stock options, if you are buying the option with cash, i dont know why there would be a margin requirement, since you're not using margin. what is the lowest cost call option you can buy? try putting that in there and see what it tells you

I have never traded options but what I can tell you is that with IBKR margin account it will treat all trades as margin, showing margin req on-going and so on. Your cash balances (in the req currency) will reduce by required amount of trade fully & if you are still positive cash then you have paid fullly so the margin req is irrelevant but it will still show on the balance sheet.

so option dealer gamma is basically 2 zones:
positive gamma = sell the rip, buy the dip = lower volatility, lower swings
negative gamma = buy the rip, sell the dip = higher volatility, higher swings

we just crossed from negative gamma to positive gamma, today, which was ~4300 on SPX. so as long as we hold positive gamma zone, expect lower intraday swings in the SPX. we could however cross back into negative gamma next week though if SPX drops

you can see the pic with the 2 strikes that i have a ticket on cash buy only. it still shows maintenance margin.

i think IBKR might be giving me automatic 2x margin on futures options. so the price is $8.45 x 100 for a 9500 ES call. but my order ticket is only charging me half that. so it's showing that i need to maintain a maintenance margin of the other half of the cost of the option. a strange way of doing business from IBKR.

that could really fuck someone up if they get excited and start trading assuming price paid and no more funding requirement. easy way to blow up your account. on the other hand that's a fuck load of leverage to make money on if you know what you're doing.

nobody named generations at all until boomers: it's called "the baby boom" because that's what happened after WWII. the "greatest generation" that coined "boomer" were talking about their ungrateful shitty "free love" kids.
shortly after that, they coined themselves the greatest generation, and their parents the silent generation.

no. they just assume you know it's margined. you could just keep the account at 2x value of premium paid and forget about it.

my math is wrong. actually 3x margin they give you on futures options. initial margin is $42k CAD. the full option price is $995 USD x 100 = $100k USD.

$42k CAD = $32k USD.

sounds good until you realize 1% drop in option value means it wipes out your maintenance margin. so you have to top up with deposits or IBKR will liquidate you. :(

It shorts the front 2 month VIX futures with -1x leverage maintaining a constant 30 day weighted maturity date. Basically a VIX short. SVIX anon explained that backtesting shows it to work best when volatility is elevated but not too high. So when volatility is low you wouldn't be in SVIX, instead you'd be in normal equities. When volatility gets too high signaling a runaway scenario like 2020 or volpocalypse you'd get out of SVIX and instead go long VIX futures via VIXM the mid-term long VIX futures ETN. At least that's how I understood it. SVIX anon measures volatility as a ratio between 6 month cash VIX and 30 day cash VIX to get signals. He uses SPY implied volatility too

Nope, poor and bad with money. Very bad, in fact. My boomer parents had every opportunity to be boomer landlords and they squandered them.
Also, family history of mental illness, I got aspergers and OCD on top of that because one wasn't enough. Now I'm underemployed, NOT a savant so I'm not particularly clever or talented at anything, and am slowly being priced out of rent let alone buying property. The only reason I'm doing fine right now if by virtue of my landlords not raising rent because they like me. If they ever sell I'm looking at 40%+ rent hike moving anywhere else.
