https://www.reuters.com/markets/asia/japans-top-fx-diplomat-says-recent-yen-moves-one-sided-speculative-2023-10-31/
TOKYO, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Japan's top currency diplomat Masato Kanda said on Wednesday authorities were on standby to respond to recent "one-sided, sharp" moves in the yen, escalating his warning to investors against pushing down the currency too much.

"Speculative trading seems to be the biggest factor behind recent currency moves," Kanda, vice finance minister for international affairs, told reporters on the yen's declines.

The situation surrounding yen moves has become "more tense" than before, he said, adding that authorities will "respond appropriately without ruling out any options".

"We're on standby," Kanda said when asked about the chance of yen-buying intervention, though he declined to say what kind of action authorities could take and when that will happen.

The yen plummeted across the board on Tuesday, dropping to a 15-year low against the euro and a new one-year trough versus the dollar, after a minor step adopted by the Bank of Japan (BOJ) toward ending years of monetary stimulus failed to appease some investors who had expected a bigger move.

Markets are on alert for possible yen-buying intervention by Japanese authorities, who are under pressure to combat a sustained depreciation of the currency as it pushes up import prices and households' cost of living.

Tokyo took action in September of last year, its first foray in the market to boost its currency since 1998, after a BOJ decision to maintain its ultra-loose monetary policy drove the yen as low as 145 per dollar. It intervened again in October 2022 after the yen plunged to a 32-year low of 151.94.

if you are in crypto, then you understand the meaning of faith in currency. What happened to luna ? what was the result ?

>according to some posters there already is a recession, not sure
we are definitely in recession. All economic indicators are pointing in that direction. The other thing is that governments are "cooking" books. This is the reason for you to not look at government data but essentials. Always look at the raw data.
Enjoy the ride now is too late to do anything. But use this opportunity to learn on your mistakes. The important thing is to learn from mistakes. Then it is not a loss but a learning opportunity. And do not take it too seriously.

TL;DR it is going to be complete collapse of everything. there is no escape. in short.

who is going to buy UST ? who is buyer of last resort of UST ? BOJ is not going to sell UST because FED would have to buy it. and then FED would be in the same position as BOJ. this is the reason why NYFED and BOJ are using swaps. BoJ sells Yen to the FRBNY to purchase USD from the FRBNY by means of a spot transaction, with a simultaneous agreement by BoJ to sell USD to the FRBNY and to purchase Yen from the FRBNY on the maturity date of such swap transaction by means of a forward transaction. https://www.boj.or.jp/en/intl_finance/cooperate/swap_ny.htm

Yes. They will run into BTC as a safe heaven. You can front run them. But where are you going to go after making money on BTC ? Because BTC only has value if there are no problems with connectivity and transactions. Let us say you have made a lot of money quickly. Now you are loaded (great, right ?) while everybody else is broke. Those broke people are going to be desperate and will be looking for somebody to blame. And who is going to have a lot of money ? You will....
I will give you a life advice. 2 things. Knowledge and good will. But you should definitely make some pocket change. it would be a good story

>US dollar is backed by the full faith and credit of the US Government?

In a low interest / low debt environment, US dollar is backed by sensible monetary policy in the biggest economy of the world (this is called monetary dominance).

If this fails and the interest and debt get too high, the US dollar is backed by sensible fiscal policy of the biggest economy in the world (this is called fiscal dominance).

If this fails and the interest goes up further and a debt spiral begins, then the US dollar is backed by the reserves it is has sensibly managed (which in the US case is mainly gold).

The treasury rate will rise and the dollar will fall (vs gold) in the latter case until the point that the reserves that the US holds are sufficient to pay of a large part of the debt / many years of the interest on that debt.

Expect a redo of the 1970's to happen but worse because back then the US had 8300 tonnes of the 100000 tonnes ever mined.
Today it has 8300 tonnes of the 210000 tonnes ever mined.
They failed monetary sensibility, they failed fiscal sensibility and they failed reserve management sensibility.
There will be hell to pay.
Think $500 dollar oil, $30000 gold about 5-10 years from now.
