Hey Anons,

I am shipping out to Boot Camp in the U.S. Army in 3 weeks and going enlisted to specialize in IT.

Am I making a mistake by not going Officer?
Which one would get me better job opportunities once I come back as a civilian?

Would Officer set me up better for Middle-management roles or would it be better to stay enlisted to specialize in IT software/hardware?

Which would make it easier for me to have a career?

Please help. I only have 3 weeks left to decide.

Dude I have nothing else going on in my life. I just got laid off and the job market is rough.

At least the army will give me a chance to learn new skills in a tough economy. Also fuck it, I am getting older and im 27. I don't want to look back and regret it.

OP thank you.

That was what I was thinking of doing. Except in my case i am not going Active Duty and am reserves. I wanted to go Signal or MI but I hear it is competetive and it's hard to pick your branch. I would love to get a PMP, but with the enlisted job I picked I am still getting valuable IT experience and Secret clerance.

Am I making a good choice or should I cancel my ship date and reapply as an officer instead?

I would love to go signal, but there is no guarantee I would get it as an officer

>> No.56496767

>>56496728
Also would it be possible to get the PMP as an officer in the reserves? do you know?

If i could get the PMP with part-time hours for 36 months would i qualify? I know it takes about 3 years to get it. So would that mean I need to be an officer for atleast 3 years?

I was considering just going the NCO route and doing it that way.

Do you have a degree? If so, you're retarded for even considering enlisted.

t. enlisted reserve e-4 who's reclassing to 25B

>> No.56496791

>>56496757
As a reservist you are supposed to have your branch prior. You affiliate with a unit and a billet prior. NG is a bit different, but they still have a large degree of preference in what they want.

As signal you’ll get your TS/SCI, and the ability to go get the credentials as I mentioned, which make you competitive to obtain these very comfy remote management positions.

Enlisted reserves/NG isn’t bad. But if you already have the degree, why bother? At 27 you’ll be in a lot better condition to go and succeed than some of these 17-24 year old mongoloids that show up

Yes man I have a bachelors in Communications. How is it retarded man? I mean i am trying to learn computers and IT like you. I wouldn't be able to learn the really technical stuff as an officer.

Wouldn't technical skills be more valuable to hr stacies once I am out?

>> No.56496830

>>56496791
I didn't know you get to pick your branch applying to be an Officer in the army before hand. I thought you have to compete and you have to choose what they give you at the end.

do you know if officers in signal still learn IT/technical stuff?

>> No.56496851

>>56496830
Yeah as a reservist you do, don’t let them shit head recruiters tell you different.

Yeah they still learn technical shit. Like MI, which I formerly was, you actually have to do work. It’s not always just the enlisted.

Just make sure you get your TS security clearance when you get out and your basic SEC+, CISSP, CCNA, or others certs during your enlistment. That with IT and you are essentially going to be making six figures when you get out and are highly sought after by namely any company there is.

>I.E. 35 Series got out after 4 years and didn't even need to go to college. 6 figure salary too.

Training gets way easier when you are in any intelligence sector of the military.

Just be glad you aren't joining artillery or because you have no other options.

Be warned that national guard does get deployed more often than enlisted does.

But more honestly you should go for training that you want as a career outside of the military. Personally if I had to enlist again I would do photography.

I did my due diligence and done a shit ton of research on Reddit from former officer to see what it's like and weighed all the pro's and con's.

Being an officer is a title with prestige, not something I really give a fuck about. I don't want to feel elite just for a title, I want to learn real life skills and be a fucking retard with the other retards if that gives me cool memories

Dude.

There are literally companies out there that will teach you all the tech skills you want as long as you agree to sign a contract to work for them or one of their clients for 2 or 3 years, WHILE paying you a competitive salary.

Officers are not sought after in the civilian market really. Just do your adso and then go to an MBA program at a good school. They dont give a shit whether you were an officer or not. Signal officers literally learn nothing of value they just wrangle tards or are a staff weenie like all junior Os.

Field artillery army officer here. Don't do army. go air force reserves or air national guard. Sign up for 60 day deployments after boot. non stop deployments to islands and asia until your sick of living the life in air force accommodations. that's what i should have done.

If your set on army then if you can, become an officer. more freedom to do what the fuck you want as long as your self motivated and get shit done. you don't have to do as much stupid shit as an officer.

>>56497862
well first of all you're a dumb nigger for joining the army. Listen to this anon >>56498267

As an officer, you would way more freedom to do whatever the fuck you want. You may not always be required to go through the same trainings as your enlisted, but you absolutely still can if you want to. Depending on your command, it would probably be encouraged.

If you're honestly listening to every thing your recruit says during the largest recruiting crisis the US has seen since vietnam, you are MONKEY. Honestly we shouldn't even be telling you this shit. You'll fit in perfectly enlisting in the army.

100% yes, but you should go ranger anyway. It's completely useless, but you can roll up your socks really cool, pick up people into fireman carry from a roll, and get a bunch of other very, very cool skills.

Of course you also need to run 5 miles in 30 minutes while deadlifting lol3plaet.
