You'd obviously make way more money with mining stocks.

Do you unironically think a total societal collapse will happen where you're actually using gold and silver to buy products and services?

If you're new to pmg Threads please seriously consider that these threads are made by greedy silver merchants who want to sell you millennial rocks at 368% premiums. If something big is going to be happening, YOU WILL BE THE LAST TO KNOW. Only spend what you want to donate to your enemies! DO NOT BUY SILVER! Do not buy silver. DO NOT PANIC BUY SILVER! This is how you get ripped off. The first rule of silver stacking is do not buy silver. So what are these scammers doing? Telling everyone day after day about their stacks and to buy silver. Do they have anything to gain by recruiting more stackers? Yes they can sell you $100 of silver for $698 and then buy it back for 43 cents. If silver was such a good deal would they really be telling everyone?

See pic related the shill forgot his tripfag was on then he turns it off so he can shill his grift anonymously. Oops got caught this time

Would not. Historical evidence does not support this for the precious metals mining sector as an aggregate (like 1979s-80s). Only individual mining stocks outperformed obviously.

Also the dollar will be kill! Do you understand? Holding mining stocks would imply that I somehow believed in the system and all of this just being a ruse and after 1 or 2 years everything goes back to cosy USD Netflix.

Besides there is a chance that mines could be nationalized or something as has happened with many properties in south America.

In truth, the best way to figure this out once and for good is to ask mintanon about his experience as mememinter. So if you read this post, don't hesitate to tell us how much work it is and if you consider it worth it as a career path.

That said, the most important part is to enjoy what you do, it's a bit boomie to say, but you don't count the hours if you do something you like (and i'd add : if you are your own boss). So i hope he likes what he's doing.

"when" ;-)

Stocks don't serve the same function in a portfolio as gold. Gold, or cash, or bonds, are used to reduce risk, they aren't supposed to yield profit. You balance one asset class against the other to account for the high risk in stocks.
The fact that you only seem to optimize for profit and ignore risk leads me to believe that you are either 16 or a retard.

Yeah, I think it is a good candidate for cleaning. If it's not just an artifact of that photo it looks like it may have already been given a "gentle" chemical treatment, maybe a vinegar or lemon juice soak some years ago, which may be the reason the clean surfaces are a bit rough/pitted. I wouldn't soak it in any more acids, maybe dab a little carefully on specific spots if necessary but don't soak it. Because of the brittle surfaces I'd recommend starting with something like a sharpened skewer made from a piece of bamboo which still retains the smoothest hardest outer cortex or a big hard tree or cactus thorn, these are much more forgiving and gentle on fragile surfaces. Then if anything tough remains you can use your copper or harder tools.

You could make millions by buying lottery tickets with all your money. Why don't you? The answer is because you made a risk assessment.
Gown ups do the same with their portfolio, they reduce volatility (aka risk) of their portfolio by balancing it to something less volatile or even anti cyclic.

>Gold is going to go up and miners will follow.
That doesn't matter me none, as the miners are in my ETF and the money value of my gold can go up or down, but the amount of gold i have will never change.
The money value of my gold will hopefully continue to be anti cyclic to my ETF so that i can balance them against each other.

The cost is in the setup and making the die for a small run where cost can't be spread out. Doing small means more dies, more cost. You won't see much of a lower cost. Think, $60-$13(for a half ozt less silver) = $47 for a half ounce, effectively making it $94 per ounce.

I'm autistically compounding mint data of popular bullion coins since 1980:

Top Ten Silver coins:

1) American Eagle: 639.668 Moz
2) Canadian Maple Leaf: 155.564 Moz (last 8 years of data missing)
3) Chinese Panda: 117.796 Moz
4) Austrian Philharmonic: 98.98 Moz (last 2 years of data missing)
5) Australian Kangeroo: 51.675 Moz (last year data missing)
6) Mexican Libertad: 33.993 Moz
7) French 100 Franc (.9 purity): 27.339 Moz
8) Australian Kookaburra Kilocoin: 20.63 Moz
9) Australian Koala Kilocoin: 12.444 Moz
10) Australian Kookaburra ounce: 8.562 Moz

Missing data of possible top 10's: British Brittania and South African Krugerrand.
Total Silver used since 1980 by top 10: 1166.65 Moz

Top Ten Gold coins:

1) American Eagle: 23.634 Moz
2) South African Krugerrand: 22.051 Moz (last 9 years of data missing)
3) Canadian Maple Leaf: 21.622 Moz (last 9 years of data missing)
4) Wiener Philharmonic: 11.911 Moz (last 2 years of data missing)
5) Mexican Centenario: 9.955 Moz
6) Chinese Panda: 9.62 Moz
7) American Buffalo: 4.191 Moz
8) British Sovereign: 3.703 Moz (last 7 years of data missing)
9) Australian Kangeroo: 3.475 Moz
10) Mexican Libertad: 0.913 Moz

Missing data of possible top 10: British Brittania
Total Gold used since 1980 by top 10: 111.077 Moz

Any coins since 1980 that would breach these top 10's that I have forgotten?
Seems like a very small group.

I think the surprise is a bit that the American Eagle far and away dominates the silver mint figures with over half of the top 10, whilst it would only be third for gold if more data for the maple and krugerrand was available.
Also Silver/Gold mint is about 10-1
And between 1980 and 2007 there was little silver being minted with only 2008 being the first year with over 20 Moz minted by my selection then quickly running up to 100 Moz by 2013 (perhaps due to maples ending data in 2014).

good eye, it does appear to have been "cleaned" with vinegar or other mild acid.

I was thinking more of a cotton swab with some fuming solvent applied only to the crud. Acetone or alcohol or gasoline or toluene.

Thank you for your advice, I have a bamboo skewer I used with some success on the previous Bucktown tokens. I'll start with that and work up to copper wire and maybe the steel nail on the more solid areas.

I don't want to make the thing worse, but that's balanced out a bit by the fact that it's already in AG-cull condition and the value of the coin is based on its identity rather than condition. I could melt half of it with a torch and it would still be worth a few hundred dollars to over a thousand so long as it could be identified.

Sort, yes. Making up for setup cost isn't what call a "premium." It's cost recovery. I would argue it's one reason larger bars/coins have lower 'premiums'. It would also depend on how much (more?) it costs to make a bigger die, the cos for using a larger press (if that's what happens - I don't know), and how large the run is.

I shoot for $120 because it provides me a decent profit after website, shipping, and card processing fees. Im only able to do this because I don't sell on eBay. Those Apus made eBay $240 each for doing fuck all but having a platform for people to find it. I used to allow vendors with 1% platform fees (card processing fee ranges from 3-6%) so effectively half eBay prices but I couldn't get people to finish signing up to list their products. I decided 1% of a sale wasn't worth my reputation if someone was selling tungsten bars or something. I may revisit it in the future though.

actually we do realize that.

coin collectors in general are quite familiar with restrikes and reproductions.

we study them in a scientific manner using microscopes and all manner of measuring implements. And you expose your ignorance of the topic by not knowing this.

Remember folks the easiest way to get rich is

Step 1. Don't buy silver

>> No.56495929 [DELETED]

Why are most people bad at making MASSIVE money with silver stacking and shitcoin buying? Because we can’t get out of our own way. I’ve noticed the below tendencies in myself over my 30 yrs of investing:

1) Early on, I form a core belief about a company of “it’s good” or “bad” many times based on articles I read or some guru who lays out a very convincing reason why it’s a buy or a short.

2) Initially in stocks, once that core mindset is formed (it’s a good or bad stock or investment), it’s VERY hard to change in my mind. It’s almost like “Whatever belief gets planted first, that’s the one that grows the fastest”.

3) I would lurk and consume news articles/websites that would lay out (in deep detail) why the stock would be a great investment. Breaking down the P&L, Balance Sheets, FCF, Margins (or lack thereof) and showcasing why, if something appeared bad, it was actually good for the long term prospects of the company. ie - the one you see most often of “they have no profit margins for 10 years because they keep investing in R&D and CAPEX which will benefit them long term”. That has cost me hundreds of thousands over the years in stock losses.

4) I would read the “opposite opinion” articles but I have found that it’s so hard to change that initial seed that was planted about a company, even as a stock or investment craters. I would keep holding out hope.

thats not supposed to happen with older coins, back then the mint didnt fuck up the cleaning process with the blanks ,thats a modern problem with the minting process like maples, krugs, phils, etc ,so either someone fucked up the coin with some chemical, or... i Dunno

>> No.56495990

that'll also happen if anon has strong acids stored anywhere in the house, or a saltwater fish tank, or any other corrosive fumes floating around. Mercury is a good one for that sort of damage.

very few of my coins or rounds or bars are in any kind of protective case or sleeve. it's almost all just naked in a piles in boxes with other silver.
a few pieces of my silver has become colored or toned with a patina of sorts, but none of it has ever had spots or splothes like this.

these 50 franc Hercules with the spots, i just got the other day. they arrived in those thin vinyl plastic sleeves.
pretty sure they already had the spots when i received them in the mail

if you want, post pics of the vinyl

it may be the PVC rot. That's what it looks like, but PVC poisoning will usually be on both sides.

It also looks a bit like someone sneezed on it or sprayed some droplets of something on one side.

that holder doesn't cause damage. So if it's PVC damage it had to be from a different older vinyl flip.

milk spots now seem more likely.

Gold krugs were illegal and vastly under reported even after legalization
they were the first bullion coins in the US, but you couldn't admit to owning them.

Gold eagles were the first legal bullion coins sold in the US as I recall

Leafs didn't become super popular in the US until the late 80's

I don't know anything about other countries, just the gold situation in the US in the 70's to now.
