while I do agree this is notable, I think the dynamic has now 'officially' shifted
we should be seeing bonds catching a bid right now going into the weekend - this is what this image relays, that going into the weekend people are mass buying puts, hedging for geopolitical risk over the weekend, AND they were also buying bonds
they are not buying the bonds today - the VIX is getting bid and they are not buying bonds
for this reason, I would not trust the past movement, and think we will continue to dump

Because back in 2020 they filled their balance sheets full of long term treasuries paying close to zero interest. Fast forward to now where the risk free rate is over 5% and they have to pay out a lot more on short term loans than they receive on the treasuries they're bagholding. Also those treasuries' mark to market price has gone down over 50% and the carnage seems to be accelerating. Banks are not the place to be anon

It's not really long term treasuries, it's mostly mortgages and MBS. The unrealized treasury losses are a blip in comparison. The covid housing boom when everyone was buying homes was during .25% interest rates, banks were writing those mortgages and most of the buyers were banks too. Without QE fed purchases to buy those off the banks balance sheets it's quite a low liquidity environment.

Buy cheap stocks in good companies and sell expensive stocks in bad companies. Position yourself to benefit from macro event catalysts if you do it with options. That's all you have to do. I got hired on for a print production position which is basically a general labor position, and then one of the guys in the mailing department quit because he's a soft faggot and left because he got disciplined for being shit and couldn't take it, so I got promoted to the mailing department. >indices never trend down for extended periods of time
There have been many instances where major indices have trended down or been flat for years and years. Nasdaq didn't see a new high for 17 years as recently as the 2010s. And that other time when the S&P crabbed for a decade during the oughts. Why would you want to take the risk of holding through something like that when it's completely unnecessary. Even worse, what if you capitulate at the bottom and miss the rise back up. You could destroy your investments for life
>>56488407
>of course people will lose money when they try to time the bottom
It's more than just that though. People probably lose more money trying to time the top. They sell too soon the sit out the rest of some huge run up then buy the first sizeable dip only to see it keep dipping another 20-30 or more percent. And just when they think "okay I'm gonna be smart and sell" the thing turns around and goes right back up. Losing traders selling too soon and riding losses is a perennial reason for why they are losers. It's psychological as well as a skill issue. Actively trading, even swing trading is not easy. It seems easy in hindsight but it's really not

>taking profits is far better than taking losses
Your strategy should be to maximize expected value of all your trades in aggregate, not to maximize win rate. If you focus on the latter it is likely you're in it for the dopamine you hit when you "win" a trade. Ironically win rate percentage is often correlated with the long term expected value. You win $1 10 times in a row then lose $11 bagholding a loser. The best strategies maximize the profit on winning trades and minimize the losses on losing trades. The best way to do that is cut losers fast and let winners ride as long as possible. By cutting your winners fast thinking "never lost money taking profit" you are severely diminishing the expected value of your system and you will likely be a net loser in the long run

Yeah it's the same with poker players, a very similar concept. Winning pros win 60% of the time, with bigger winning sessions than losing ones.
Losers will win 80-90% because they leave as soon as they are up, and if they start the session down they will chase and chase until they are either busto or break even. When someone brags about having 70-80% winning sessions, everyone instantly knows he must be a losing player. Same concept here
