If you're new to SETF Threads please seriously consider that these threads are made by greedy silver merchants who want to sell you millennial rocks at 232% premiums. If something big is going to be happening, YOU WILL BE THE LAST TO KNOW. Only spend what you want to donate to your enemies! DO NOT BUY SILVER! Do not buy silver. DO NOT PANIC BUY SILVER! This is how you get ripped off. The first rule of silver stacking is do not buy silver. So what are these scammers doing? Telling everyone day after day about their stacks and to buy silver. Do they have anything to gain by recruiting more stackers? Yes they can sell you $100 of silver for $698 and then buy it back for 43 cents. If silver was such a good deal would they really be telling everyone?

A bunch of slurps tonight, there were a load of very interesting auctions who ended up pretty cheap, but i couldn't secure them due to lack of cash, so i focused on the ones i wanted the most.

Here the flip side. Paid 16.50€ for it, and it weight 8g.
Btw, the seller had over a dozen silver tokens from 1700-1750 on sale who ended tonight, and beside this token, literally ALL the tokens were won by another bidder .50c above my max bids. Idk what were his max bids, but it got me pretty salty, as it seems it only was the both of us who noticed those fire sales. Guy made a killing as i max bidded approx 35% of the resale value.
Still, i'm happy with my tiny boat.

Maybe instead of the coins, since it's a kind of national pride thing, what about ancient silverware? "Savoir vivre à la française" is supposed to be elegant and sophisticated when it comes to "les arts de la table", and you don't have much silverware dating from before the writing of your constitution..
I was thinking of maybe trying to sell 300yo silverware to your richfags who want to impress their guests.

What's nice with silverware is no matter how technologically advanced we become, we still need to put things in our mouth and chew it up to survive, so it's not gonna become obsolete any time soon, and it's something you have to give to your guests, they are forced to put it in their hands and in their mouth. So if you wanna impress your guests without trying to appear pedantic or forcing the thing, silverware is the perfect tool. Aristocrats understood this millenias ago already.

>>56481729
Seems pretty expensive, but it's normal from pro numismatic sellers, they have an insane range of choices, but it comes with the cost.. You can find it for way cheaper if you are patient enough. Like i said around 10-20 bux for most of them. But yeah from pros and "ready to buy" you can x3-4 the pricetag.

Probably was gifted to some of the GFW engineers who worked on the project and few high ranked luft officers. Couldn't find anything about it online, so idk if the item is legit, but looking at how many ppl are following the sale (60+), it might very well be.

So far it's at 170€, but i expect it to go much higher. I'd be very tempted if i could somehow authentify it, but i've no clue what would be a good price for this lil' gem...

I really love these huge chonky ladles and spoons fren, they were likely rather uncommon to begin with, but after 200 years of being melted down there can't be many pre-revolutionary serving pieces still in existence. Current resale/retail values for such things fall in a very wide range, I see websites which cater to richfag egos offering and actually selling nicely polished but unremarkable 18th century silver items for 3-10x melt value, items which you can get at scrap price all the time. Looks fake to me, I don't like the look of the welds, the wood or the medallion. Having it in-hand would be best but I'd bet it's yet another fantasy "artifact" made by one of the skilled artisans and forgers of WW2 items based in Ukraine, Poland, or Russia. Some are frighteningly good at it, but this doesn't look too sophisticated.

all the aluminum tokens in that pic were dug from the same town and were all manufactured by the same local company. So I'm guessing it's just soil pH wherever they happened to land. I didn't actually pay for six of those, I dug them. The rest were bought though. I get excited about my tokens.

hey Scrapfren, sorry i couldn't answer your last post in the previous-previous bread concerning the bracelet, due to jannoid induced free vacations. Just came back from my """holidays""".

>Current resale/retail values for such things fall in a very wide range
I noticed the XVIIIth silverware fetching the biggest premiums per gram over here are definitely the stew spoons/forks. I know you like them too, you know, the ones weighting 140g and more. The longer they are, the more expensive. Saw one going for 450€ not long ago, but it was quite the piece, the kind requiring a garguantuan mouth lol.
Otherwise the candleholders, and the unique dishes of course.
One seller i follow in particular have truly mindblowing pieces from that era on sale, i've no idea where he find those. Just clicked on his store and pic rel is the first who showed up; a table bell like this..
https://www.ebay.fr/sch/i.html?_trkparms=folent%3Aws1000%7Cfolenttp%3A1&_trksid=p3542580.m47492.l71970&_ssn=ws1000

>that such venerable antiques are a credible flex of their refined taste and superior intellect really opens up their wallets
That's really what i should do, as any self-respecting frog i'm pretty good at snarky flattery.

>Do you know how these tokens were used?
Yes, mostly as account helpers. It's Napoleon who introduced the decimal system to divide our money (100 cents = 1 F). But before that, it was an absolute mess, like you needed 7 sols to make a denier, then 3 deniers to make a gros, then 5 gros to make a patard, 2 patards to make an ecu, 8 ecus to make a livre...
It was an accounting nightmare. Those tokens were used by their weight to have a kind of standard.
Also, it wasn't rare for money to lack during wars), so the guildes of merchants, the local bankers, the churches even,.. made their own coinage when official coins were lacking to smothen local commercing.

That's interesting, I haven't read about the industry but assumed most would have been made by larger scale specialist companies as with glass or stoneware, but stamping stock sheet metal isn't as technically challenging so local production makes sense. Imagine finding the location of the ghost town token mill and digging out their dump or finding some rusty dies to inspire the envy of other token autists. I've been wondering if you've tried cleaning any other tokens, or made any recent purchases of crusty cheapies you know you can transform into much more desirable specimens?

Whereas IQDELET remains free to blather endlessly for months, it's a bit suspicious so maybe anons are actually right that it's a janny. Regarding that seller, I think he might be an oldfag collector, maybe he has a network of jewelry or coin store owners he has a relationship with and buys inventory from at melt price which he knows can be sold for a premium? That bell is pretty awesome but just 20th century. The simple charming unpretentious elegance of 17th-18th century silverware may not capture one's attention like highly decorated or complex articles, but I find it extremely lovely and "honest". Regarding the tokens I understood that base metal ones were used in accounting but being made of precious metal would be unnecessary if they were just counters, then I read this:
>The mints and treasuries of the big estates in Central Europe used their own jetons and then had a number of them struck in gold and silver as New Year gifts for their employees, who in turn commissioned jetons with their own mottoes and coats-of-arms.
I'll need to read more about their history and the use of the silver ones, they seem like a fun facet of numismatics to collect.

Today's purchase: a 1878 Morgan Dollar. Very good condition for "XF"--usually Liberty's hair is worn smooth. Damage was $38 and change.

1878 is a significant year because the US began making Morgan dollars pursuant to the Bland-Allison Act.

Previously, the US government had stopped minting silver coinage with the Coinage Act of 1873, helping kick off the Panic of 1873 as deflation caused investors to hoard cash instead of lending it out. Additionally, the increasing real cost of labor led to high unemployment and strikes. The worst off were Midwestern farmers, who were highly levered and suffering from collapsing wheat prices. In the period between 1873 and 1878, the price of wheat had fallen from ~$1.00/bushel to ~$0.60, all while the real value of their loans only increased due to the deflationary effects of demonetizing silver.

As a result, in 1878, Congressmen from Iowa and Missouri created a bipartisan proposal: the US would purchase a set dollar amount of silver every month at market rates from the productive silver mines of Nevada, and turn it into coinage. This was a compromise between the interests of lenders (generally Republican) and the indebted Silverites (generally Democrats), which opposed/supported free coinage and the associated unchecked inflation. The Republican Rutherford B. Hayes overrode the veto on fears that it favored silver*, but Congress overrode his veto the same day and it became law.

* Hayes had two reasons to veto the bill. As proposed, the bill would have favored silver over gold at the current spot prices--it assumed a gold-to-silver ratio of 16:1, which was the case before the exploitation of the huge reserves of silver in Nevada. The other is that he was beholden to corporate interests following the contentious election of 1876, in which neither candidate had won a clear majority.

since you seem to know something about tokens maybe you can provide some insight in to a recently inherited token that i received a couple weeks ago. Among many of the standard classics like large cents, 2 & 3 cent pieces, flying eagle cents etc. there was a small pouch of foreign coins. nothing too valuable in it.. then i found pic related. I cannot find an example on numista, or any for sale anywhere on ebay or the internet in general. basically the only reference (or other physical examples) that i can find of this token is at the Smithsonian and The National Museum of American History.

1876 Samuel J. Tilden Campaign Medal
A disputed election- quite interesting, and in a centennial year nonetheless. So is it possible that I inherited an extremely valuable piece of history, if I were to find the right collector/buyer? Or is it such an oddity as to not be worth much of anything? The example at the museums also has the small hole at the top so possibly they were all made like this?

Mintage figures.
Anyone know where to find mintage figures of the Krugerrand, Maple leaf and Britannia?

I'm trying to compile an overview of 2006-2022 but cant seem to get it complete.

So far though couple of interesting things:
Gold mintage of the biggest bullion coins is 45.4M whilst Silver mintage is 900.3M
(this is without many years of krugerrand, maple leaf and brittania production)

Thats less than 40% of 1 year's worth of global gold mining supply but 1.1 times silver's yearly global mining supply.

I guess gold is more often invested in by buying bars than bullion whilst with silver this is the other way around?

Still curious though.
Since much more of silver's global mining supply is wasted year over year, whilst gold stays in vaults somewhere i thought bullion mintage of gold would be higher.

Also, how did people invest in silver pre 2006?
These bullion coins seem to be a relatively new phenomenon.
How much of that 900 million ounces (1 billion + with missing years) do you think still exists today and how much has been resmelted?

Peace reverse is still sexy even if Morgan’s reverse design is slightly more appealing but they’re also too similar to liberty gold reverse and barber quarters from the same era which makes the peace dollar even better cause it’s more unique. This one is from Colonial Mint’s “Last of the Windjammers” 14 bar set. Those little 3g ones are from Franklin mint a 50 bar “Great Sailing ships of History” set. those were made in a mini-ingot 3g set(pic related) and full size .9 oz set both in .925. The also did another full size set Great fighting ships of America.

just a couple quick thoughts, I have places I need to be.

Thank you for posting, that's fascinating
I am also unable to find that medal on any catalog or website that you haven't already seen
this indicates it is probably very rare. And valuable apparently.
The hole for suspension was part of the design, yes.
The fact that the only 2 we can google are in museums, and national museums at that, indicates it's probably quite valuable.

I've never really found something like that, but if I did I'd send pics to a few ebay sellers and maybe take it down to the LCS to see if anyone knows anything. It seems to be quite rare from what I can tell just checking google, tokencatalog, hollabird, ebay.

It wouldn't surprise me.
Silver is a VERY valuable material from an industrial stance.
It is the best conductor for electricity and among the best for conducting heat.
It also cannot be recycled after it's been mixed with things like phosphorus so make SilPhos solder.
And... it's an "endangered element".
Despite what the antisilver shill spews, Silver will NEVER be worthless.

Wieners, britannias, maples all go back long before then. And there were even many collectible coins (pic related) but more of these were in .925 than today. Also plenty of commemorative coins that were often .925 or even .900 (e.g. 100 francs).

I sold my stack of silver a few months back to buy a Rolex. Feels bad. Idk why I sold it all. I had some cool stuff too. Kooks, krakens, ASEs, and an assortment of 1 oz bars. Now all I have are my asahi rounds and a few tubes of krugs.

I don’t even know where to begin collecting again. Thinking about only collecting rounds anyway since premiums are crazy now

Yep, most tokens in the US were made by a small handful of national or state producers.
My town used to be bigger than Denver back in the day, so we had a token manufacturer. I'd give my left nut to find some dies from that company. Somebody probably has some, but I don't know who.

I haven't found any tokens to clean up lately. I might do some work on the Sammon token here >>56482113

Normally I get to buy about one token every 5 years or so for the towns I collect. They're super rare, don't come up for sale often, and I already own most of them. The last few years of covid deaths have been an extraordinary buying spree for me. Once in a lifetime sort of event.

>My town used to be bigger than Denver back in the day, so we had a token manufacturer. I'd give my left nut to find some dies from that company.

Do you know where the factory was located? If it was in the middle of downtown I wouldn't hold my breath, but if on the outskirts and on a parcel with irregular terrain or a nearby ravine they may have dumped/landfilled on-site instead of sending everything to the main town dump. It would be super cool to find a wagonload of floor sweepings and cutouts sprinkled with "error" clipped planchet or double struck tokens they culled and tossed.

>I might do some work on the Sammon token here
It looks like it can be improved and the spots of crud cleared off, but be careful as the appearance of the rim in the upper right quadrant suggests it is a bit corroded/pitted and crystallized, the surfaces will be trickier and you don't want to accidentally chip off some of the embrittled embossing so don't get too ambitious, less is more with that one.

Yeah, the token manufacturer was right downtown, took up the entirety of the largest building in town. They also did plumbing and mechanical/machine work. I figure if the dies didn't get scrapped they went to the town dump when the place closed. Find one and you'd probably find them all. I've got a few error coins with clipped planchets from that maker. It seems they just sold their error tokens for use instead of tossing them. A couple of the clipped planchets are in this pic
>>56481963

Thank you for advice on the Sammon coin. I also really feel like that rim is unstable, was just thinking of concentrating on the center of the field. The reverse also has some crud or corrosion that could probably come off. I don't want to ruin it, but it's one I don't intend to sell so if for some reason I fuck it up a bit it's all my problem. I will go easy on it as you suggest.

>>56489015
Darn, I guess it depends on when they closed but if not tossed in the dump earlier I know that lots of old dies/molds were collected and melted in the WW2 scrap drives. I have a few antique c.1890-1910 bottle molds that survived somehow including this sweet set, not really worth what token/coin dies would be but still pretty cool. Anyway please post a pic of the other side of your Sammon token if it's convenient, not all corrosion is created equal and sometimes there's nothing that can be done to improve a piece. Are you wealthy or have a high income?

Middle class retards need to come to terms with this: You will have an innate desire to signal to your peers you are "upper middle class" and you will make all kinds of stupid-retard decisions to throw your money away on veneers.
People splurge on houses, apartments, cars, clothing, dining and they have little wisdom that despite the window-dressing, their toil is low-margin because they consume their capital rather than save it.
I know someone who had to have that $6000 plasma screen TV in 2002 and is living off of social security today. Too old to work, needing his kids to manage his money for him.
Living below your means with a fat fucking portfolio is the way to go. $100,000 portfolio earning 10% sure will feel like you are upper class. All you have to do is lower your expectations and stuff your money under your mattress. Think about how much your life will improve if you had an extra $100, $200, or even $1000 per month. Your options open up. Your burdens decrease.
You don't suddenly retire all at once, what if you could lock in 5 or 10% of your monthly costs via dividend income by the time you are 30? You can have it simply by giving up luxury and vices.
It is worth the struggle and the peace of mind it gives is worth its weight in gold.

That was Del's stuff... not mine.
He was very wealthy... silver was perhaps 10% of his true net worth.
He sold coins at local flea markets, just as a hobby, to get out of the house, and get people into coin collecting. Him and his wife used to sell at the local flea markets every Saturday and Sunday, and used it as a way to get to know new people. They were late 60's and 70's... and they enjoyed meeting new people and not sitting around the house bored on the weekend. When they didn't do the flea market, Del would go to coin shows... it wasn't really Shirley's thing, so she'd go shopping at the Flea Market, or wherever the coin shows happened to be.
But, to be honest, they had more fun with Del's hobby, than most people I see with stocks and bonds. In the end, we all die...but, to have a little fun along the way, that's a much better alternative than simply having a stack of cash in a bank account, that the bank will seize as soon as you die, and then your family has to go to the court, get paperwork, to get your money out of the bank... Silver, you could literally walk in his house, and there it was... no banker to tell you when or how you could access it, or what you could do with it.

I know boomers who could have done this but didn't want to because they were greedy as fuck(I NEED the McMansion/Boat/etc). Their lives would be so much easier if they just decided to live a little less lavishly.

Honestly I don't think it's a boomer exclusive problem, though. I know plenty of millennials and some zoomers who think they deserve the moon and stars, and it's those billionaire's fault they don't make enough to afford it, meanwhile they blow $300 a month on weed, $70 on streaming shit they literally don't even use, etc. I wish I was making these numbers up.

I don't know if it's that I'm unambitious, or everybody else is greedy, or I'm just better with money and everybody else is shit with it. Maybe all of the above.

How do you get 10% returns on 100k$? I’m pretty deep into not trusting anything regarding markets, banks, and Jews but the passive income of turning otherwise inflation drained savings into monthly money intrigues me.

Regarding millennials and zoomers, many are quietly living suicidal lives where now is all that matters and saving for the future doesn’t matter. Compound that with addictions to most everything that’s become commoditized from social media to going for drinks and the escapes from their shitty jobs end up condemning them to working to live and living to work. It’s tragic, sad, and makes me feel like I’m doing alright by comparison. I suffered and slaved and lived a joyless early 20s so I could have a house paid for in a cheap boring town with “nothing to do.” Now I grow food and stack shiny rocks while my counterparts slave on the rat race treadmill.

They also heavily play the paper silver market. I'm no Sherlock but I think they know they fucked up. Comex is gonna blowmex.

What do you sell? I’ve got cover crops about to get frost killed over this weekend and I’ll be planting nightshades, cucurbits, and okra in spring for my local market. There seems to be zero interest in anything else as I’ve only seen these crops for sale. My move is to eliminate as much overhead as possible to undercut my product as I’m competing with the same goods.

Love this bar but when it's naked it's very sharp and unpleasant to hold

>How do you get 10% returns on 100k$? I’m pretty deep into not trusting anything regarding markets, banks, and Jews but the passive income of turning otherwise inflation drained savings into monthly money intrigues me.

With those circumstances, you don't. You can get around 5% by just putting it into a high-yield savings account. That's what I do. It's relatively low risk as even if the bank goes under you're covered by FDIC. Of course both of these require some level of trust in both the banks and the fed. Obviously, it's entirely possible that both of those things fall through, but 1. I think that possibility is pretty low. 2. Chances are if that happens I'll have bigger problems, 3. That's part of the reason why I stack.

It's an acceptable risk IMO and I say that as a pretty financially-risk-averse person.

If you want 10% you're probably going to have to do some actual investing, by that I mean the kind that carries a non-negligible amount of risk.

Unless you have a major amount of money going into this account I’m fearful of inflation eating away at the make believe fiat dollars. I’m inclined to just go full peasant farmer and stack land and metals until I die while cleaning my coop.

Why are you claiming silver is a bad investment? It's one of the many tangible assets that is greatly undervalued as commodities are rigged to keep supply countries poor so people can consume cheap product. Silver is in growing demand as it is the best conductor of heat and electricity. These properties are needed for high efficiency and power electronics ranging from medical equipment, missiles, wireless transmitters and mirrors for nano electronics fabrication. Not only that silver is a biocide and is needed for water filters, medical equipment and cutlery.

With a global silver supply of ~1.2bn oz a year, and a price of ~24, that means one rich person can buy the entire planets yearly supply and corner the market. There is very little silver available in reserves ~3bn ounces for the planet and this will be frozen for the militaries if anything bad goes down... unless you hold your own physical gold and silver. The undervalued asset should be ~$800/oz at current prices so the $24 or so a ounce I paid last week is a fantastic deal. It not a quick pump and dump, but if you hold silver long enough (like a 401k, or a house) you'll probably get some good returned in 5-10 years, maybe sooner if BRICS kicks in, hyperinflation destroys the USD federal reserve fiat ponzi scheme. Then we have to repeg, where gold goes silver follows.

The mining ratio is 1 gold for 8 silver, but there is probably more gold available in vaults than silver as silver is used up all the time. When Africa breaks away from USD control, prices will go up like Uranium's have. After all this talk, I might buy some more shiny sintce it is payday. I see 10oz bars for $25.10 at a favorite online dealer. I have no idea where you find the 300-400% premium scammers here. I was happy to pay my $72 for my anonymint round as some are for me to pass on the the grandkids and tell the stories of you online trolls while I'm comfy in the next currency restructing.

Tomorrow I have pumpkins/ winter squash, okra, eggplant, bell peppers, and cilantro. This was my first year selling so I tried a little of everything. Tomatoes were a waste of time. I'll plant twice as much okra next year and probably sell out every time. I'm a little bit gay for pumpkins so I'll always plant them, but they do pretty good. Leafy greens do well and but they are a little more labor to wash.

I’ll be doing the same optimizing next year. Hoping to have enough of every crop to see what I need to plant more of and what will go. As greedy as I can get I need to practice patience and not kill all my tomatoes the first bad day at market. Worst case scenario me, my wife, and chickens eat an assload of home grown food.

Good luck man. Finding the right price can be tricky, but having loyal clients helps. Treat them generously. Yeah nothing goes to waste here either.

China is gaining a pretty solid foothold as their bribes and ethics are much lower than our business have to pretend to. Similar to how the USA has sold many of our ports to China, so did Africa. It's going to be a fight and BRICS isn't too happy with USA Fiat as the debt they hold gets more useless with every dollar the Federal Fiat prints. Won't be long till dollar is worthless and nobody wants it. Better get some commodities of any type. Gold and silver are a historically valuable in crazy times.
