All the rich people I know say networking is the most important thing yet /biz/ never discusses it. Why?

Should we all be focusing on getting huge expansive social networks of successful people?

Is it normal to get only rejected in your first 23 years of life
>outcast in middle and highschool
>dropped from frat in college after a short stint of being a normie because I pissed someone off i dont really know
>rejected from 9/10 jobs in college, always ended up in some warehouse or shitty grunt job that would take anyone after being rejected from campus store, dorm RA, on campus research
>year post grad rejected from over a dozen job interviews
>hundreds of applications
>no friends anymore
>more broke than I even was in university
>no will anymore to even try because I already know the outcome
What did I do so wrong, you cant even tell me I didnt try. And I always could hold a conversation, eye contact, I even have had friends and gfs im not a mega sperg but people can tell im just off somehow and dont want me around.

That reminds me
>in music college, kicking ass. Way ahead of my peers
>when I arrived, apparently I booted an upperclassmen out of his band seat and got him placed in the lower retard band
>this made him seethe and hate my guts (didn't even know)
>see him at an event, he's talking about a guy who overdosed on pills and died a few years ago in the music program
>say, in passing, out of hand, "He sounds like a real character"
>he takes it the complete wrong way, even though that was meant as a compliment
>he complains to all the senior leadership in the music fraternity and gets me kicked out of the rush
>dig around for answers, everyone tells me "it was Jarrod that told us about what you said"
>for the rest of the year, he acts friendly to my face the entire time
>drop out once I realize this guy has gone to literally every person he could think of and badmouthed me, ruining any chance I had at making connections. Every professor, every director, all of them
So, in short, I paid $12,000 to get seethed at for an entire year by a retard who can't play his instrument and got kicked out of the music fraternity because he was looking for even one little slip-up that he could use to screw me over. I sometimes wish the duel-to-the-death system was still in place so I could have set that limp wristed faggot in his place.

If he was even remotely good at music, I would have probably done that out of a sense of competition, but he was absolutely terrible. Worse than most people when they start playing. He had no future in music and I think he knew it. If I ever see him again I'll whip him mercilessly with a belt.

When rich people say networking they don't mean just knowing people.
It is about knowing people when you have something to offer and they have something to offer in return.

If you are a broke wagie or newgrad you have nothing to offer. No experience, no contracts, no ventures, no valuable connections.

When people network they gauge the other person in terms of what they can get from that person.

>All the rich people I know say networking is the most important thing yet /biz/ never discusses it. Why?
For the same reason Facebook is a massive, profitable company but could disappear tomorrow and almost no one would give a shit. That's "networking" in a nutshell - a non-necessary but profitable endeavor sometimes but mostly a big circle jerk other times.

What are "rich" people supposed to tell you? That their Daddies did it for them (the truth most of the time)? No, they need to offer you something to get you to go away while also making themselves feel superior - enter "networking." It wasn't the $5 million loan their Daddies gave to them, it was because they could call someone else their Daddies introduced them to. /rolls eyes.

This is what networking really is - a person who can vouch for you. That's it. I was a banker. In a certain city in the US, I could make one phone to call to *realistically* 10 different people and have a job from that phone call. Why? Because I worked with them directly, they know my skill, and they would want me to do work for them. Those 10 people are connected to thousands of other people who they could introduce me to. THAT'S networking - someone vouching for you. That didn't come from fiddling each others' dicks at a mixer; it came from doing actual work.

You know what else you could do instead of "networking"? Actual work. That makes money. Would accomplish the same thing.
