You're not going to kill it by blindly stabbing at the neck, and you're just allowing it to get your arm. Correct solution is to grab both the forelegs then push the forelegs outwards and back away from you breaking the ribcage. This is supposedly fairly easy so long as you can get an angle on the dog.
