SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME

>> No.56352305

https://www.forexlive.com/news/why-the-signals-from-the-bond-market-are-truly-terrifying-20231012/
[The sum of all bond market fears is that the combination of deficits, QE, ultra-low rates and a general market mania (think NFTs, crypto and meme stocks) built a house of cards in the global economy that's just starting to crash down. Yes, silly season has been over for awhile but what's beneath is an economy that looks more like NFTs than a real economy and the price is just starting to be paid. If this is the sound of the bursting of the greatest bubble of all time, then god help us because the economic, market, fiscal and political ramifications are terrifying and there's nearly nowhere to hide.]
>Why the signals from the bond market are truly terrifying
US 10-year yields are rising at a rapid pace. US 10-year yields have risen to 4.70% from 4.0% since early August.
>The moves have come despite stable market-measured inflation and Fed expectations. Aside from some moderate underlying strength, there haven't been any big economic surprises either.
The scariest part about it is that there's no good explanation for why it's happening.Lately, there's been some hope that it was quarter-end or some kind of one-off puke but with two auctions missing this week (including today), it's increasingly clear that real-money demand just isn't there. There are scenarios where this blowout isn't necessarily a bad thing and scenarios where it's terrifying.
>1) Foreign buyers disappearing
2) Higher for longer
>3) Volatile inflation future
4) Debt and deficits
>5) Quantitative Tightening
6) All of the above
>Fear scale 10/10

Bro bonds yields are up because China and Japan are dumping bonds. Japan is doing it because they've been in an economic black hole for decades and China is doing it to directly manipulate the US economy as well as to prop up their dogshit economy. It's fake and gay.

>> No.56352436

>>56352305
>The scariest part about it is that there's no good explanation for why it's happening
It's actually a fairly simple expectation. No one is getting excited over 4.7% 10y when they can get 5.5% today. At first there was some expectation that these higher yields are a short blip before reverting to zero. Those dudes are getting rolled right now. Likely the same people that thought negative real yields also made sense. Some of these are forced buyers.
>Is this bearish?
Not really. There's been some temporary reductions in liquidity which are pressuring asset prices, but long term 5.5% yields will roll into more/larger national deficits. Every year that t-bills continue to pay out 5.5% yields, more money is created to fund those. Old bonds mature, and get rolled into new auctions at these higher rates. All else equal, stocks and other assets will slowly start to seem cheaper, unless they also see similar nominal increases over time.
Of course, our government could fund this elevated interest expense via tax increases instead. Doing so would arguably be bearish, however treasuries tend to be the most tax inefficient vehicle since interest is taxed annually at short-term gains brackets. Stocks, particularly growth stocks, end up being a better vehicle to avoid these traditional forms of taxation.

As for the real economy, numbers continue to indicate resilience. It's hard to say the common man is doing well, but they're no worse off than they were a year or so ago.

There is some perpetual belief that the whole of global wealth is an infinity bubble, that asset multiples belong at 10-20% real yields like some decades past. I can guarantee you this will not happen. Demographics make it impossible. Retirement saving schemes such as 401k/IRA/pensions make it impossible. There are too many people too focused on saving. These low single digit real yields are where the supply/demand curve equilibrium sits.

You should absolutely be kidnapped against your will and jailed, have your residence burglarized by armed gun men in black uniforms, have personal items searched through and stolen, and get threatened, assaulted, extorted from in the form of fines and legal fees from courts, etc for daring to reformat such a thought of word into a visible representation of arranged pixels as a form of communication to other individuals.

I'm not going to debate the semantics of the word consistency with you.
Over the long term, historically, stocks have tended to outperform. Within a specific timeframe, there is risk. If you have a particular budget, consistency can be valuable. Bonds still suffer currency risk, but that can be hedged.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Boomer The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story that Reddit would tell you. It’s a bond market legend. Darth Boomer was a Dark Lord of the Bonds, so powerful and so wise he could use the interest rates to influence the yields to create income… He had such a knowledge of the bond side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from losing money. The bond side of the market is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

Sometimes I wonder if people here are trolling or legitimately retarded. There's over 20 years of history for TLT. It's literally only up 4%. At it's height it only got up 100%. It's no where close to the performance of SPY or QQQ. Not to mention how idiotic it is to buy bond ETFs versus buying bonds outright, If you wonder why you don't outperform the market, look no further.

Their portfolios may already have a lot of stocks and they want to diversify among asset classes. Or policies and regulations might require them to diversify.

They might have lots of money but a poor understanding of investing. So their decisions won't necessarily be well-considered.

Bonds might be an excellent hedge for their financial lives. A banker's job compensation might benefit from high interest rates, for example, so he hedges by investing in long-term Treasurys, which benefit from low interest rates.

Why in the fuck would you make a slim version more expensive?

I remember fondly back in the mid/late 2000's when the PS2 slim came out. It had a significant price drop and by that time there were a TON of PS2 games that were good. Getting a $99 PS2 slim was a bargain.

Nowadays? PS5 ain't got shit that's worth it. Not even Demon's Souls remake. Video game industry is pretty fucked anyway with the looming recession that's gonna bfto out of consumers and streamers alike.

Yeah Bill gates is funding these facilities to suck CO2 out of the atmosphere (it sounds like they're using metal hydroxides.)
Because doing it passively with sunlight and plants is just to pleasant and releases breathable oxygen. Gotta burn oil, use up metal, and keep it away from both plants and people.
