In my opinion, lowest cost per ozt is whats important. Bullion is bullion, in the US you will probably get a bit more for a Silver Eagle if you go to sell, but you will have paid more for it initially. Just shop deals and sales, you can get Britannias and shit on sale for the same cost as generic rounds, sometimes there will be 10ozt bars on sale or 2ozt rounds, etc... if you just shop deals you'll end up with a nice assortment of different things. Nothing wrong with collecting some more expensive neat things, but when stacking for weight price is all that matters. Only buy from reputable places, if a deal is too good to be true than its too good to be true.

Quick research indicates, once you have all the equipment, each figure costs about $0.10 to make, and can take 30 min +/- to 3d print on an average home user /diy/ 3d printer.
I would double that estimate if also printing the clothing/armor/accessories for each figure.
Then the finishing/clean up of the printed figure
Then the primer and detail painting.
Once a good character pattern and production system is developed. I think the detail, prep and painting could be done 30 min. Max per figure. Probably more like 5 minutes.
Then advertising, packaging, sales and distribution/shipping.
