Ruling class getting heemed on commercial property so they are overcharging residential to make up the loss. However they don't realize this will shut down consumer spending resulting in a depression. GG no RE.

London rent costs 90% of an average salary

An average UK salary

Obviously, the average UK salary earner cant afford to live in london.

It's like saying the cost of rent in LA is 200% of the average american's income. Nobody earning the average is paying that. London is expensive - this is nothing new.

What makes cities like London and Paris so expensive? Does every rich person on earth have a flat there or something?

Yes. You are competing with
> richfags , for example, former Czech Healthcare minister owns 47 flats in Prague
> Banks, REITs, another example ErsteBank owns 10s of thousands od flats in Vienna alone
> government buying out flats for social housing because they are incompetent to build anything
> then smallest foe are boomers who own 3-4 estates, leaving flats empty, you can barely compete even with those

>> No.56319536

>>56319484
The first and last points you posted have become intertwined with multi national globalist richfags and Airbnb properties. Instead of renting out a property to a long term tenant they rent it out to gay single men for 4 days at a time. It's ridiculous.

I got a minimum wage job straight after university and saved pretty hard in my early 20s.

Bought a house in a fairly average suburb when I was 26 (with my now wife). We were both on £25k a year at the time and came from working class backgrounds. Cost us £160k and it was an absolute wreck, spent years renovating (new boiler, rewrite, carpets, driveway, plaster walls, bathroom etc.)

Meanwhile my friends all wanted to rent in the super trendy suburb, having little disposable income left to enjoy the fancy restaurants and bars of said suburb.

Fast forward 6 years and our house has 2.5x in value (£350-400k for same properties sold on my street), the average suburb has been gentrified into the new hip place to be. All my poor friends stuck in the rent trap now want to move to my suburb but can’t afford it because they’ve spent £2k a month on rent for the past decade.

I mortgaged in January on a 2% five year fixed rate and pay £600 with a £400 overpayment. Only have 15 years left.

London basically is the UK. If you don't live in London you're a second class citizen.

Exceptions:

Oxford(shire)
Cambridge(shire)

Plus some southern rural villages.
(UK rural means 15-25m drive to the nearest supermarket)
