They did to an extent but it was unclear where those shares went and whether they were sold into the open market or sold in a private sale. Given that this is a merger or acquisition it would make more sense if they were sold via private sale to whomever is acquiring the company or merging it with another so that party could get to majority ownership and control it, and that being the most logical thing would mean there's potentially billions of bbby shares held in peoples accounts that are wholly unbacked and were created via abusing the locate to borrow system to justify the creation of more cfd's that are really ftd's. Which would mean a lot of people are now on the hook to buy what they sold yet never owned, which makes line go up and it's entirely their problem. Going off the filings the cash payment per share should be 25$ per which would also blow the pump and dump suit out of the water and is probably why it's not made real progress as a case. Everyone would be made whole or at least most of the way there even if they bought at 27$ during the peak which most didn't, and that 25$ per share would be coming out of brokers pockets if they didn't have their customers shares to begin with.
