If you earned that you could put it in a roth IRA, and stick it in index funds you might make $100 over a year (probably not this year though.) If you want to invest instead of working you need to have something to invest.

Higher interest rates are good for banks but if they get to high I can see them affecting their profits. Of course I see why your bearish on banks but if you're in it for the long term(10 years +) than it doesn't really matter :)
