for example

In one year, anon pays you $100 - you make $10 interest on the IOU piece of paper. However, a month from now, you decide that you actually want the money now - you can't wait a year. You still have the IOU slip saying that "anon will pay me $100 in 11 months" - you go and sell that IOU piece of paper to someone else. However, now the person who buys the piece of paper from you is paying $48.60
in other words, the price/value of the piece of paper fell from $90 to $48.60, a drop of 46%

Bonds pay a fixed dollar value return. If I buy a bond, I know in advance what it will pay me over time. The only thing that varies is my up-front premium for the bond. The more I pay up-front, the less I make overall from the bond.

High demand for bonds = people will pay higher prices = they return less over all. (The overall return is what people mean by yield.)

So when there's low demand for bonds, the effective yield will be higher.

That's the main thing to get down. From there, you can start to reason what would cause demand for bonds to increase or decrease and how those fluctuations are largely determined by expected interest rates and expected yields of other instruments like stocks.
