They know the real way to make a lot of money from it would be to sell it to companies as a way to have WFH meetings where people can’t be on their phones or browse the internet during the meeting.

Problem is that’s almost as bad as being in the office so remote workers would resist it.

Actual VR enjoyer since the Oculus Kickstarter.
People seem to have very strong views on VR: it's either going to be GITS/Ready player one and consume reality or it's just a stupid overhyped fad which sucks.

The actual reality is that it's a new fun and more social way to play video games. Meta has done very well selling over 20 millions of Quest 2 (that's half the number of PS5 sales) but they went with a narrative which doesn't match reality at all, like someone trying to sell you a car as a place to have sex instead of one to go from point A to B.

I also think they made a mistake dumping the Oculus brand, they should have kept it as the gaming division of facebook.

Haven't really played many games as my friends dont have a headset. There is a language learning game called nountown that I have liked, but other than that the headset really only functions as a light exercise device and a media device. My TV is 15+ years old and I dont like watching TV on my desktop, but I do like slapping the headset on and having basically a movie theater in front of me. Have used it on an airplane to watch movies and its much better than a phone, laptop, or the little tv's on international flights. On the international flights you can basically just drain your battery with saved movies, switch to the inflight movies while its charging and then shift back.

You're an idiot and the future is already here. I was playing beat saber on the subway on my way to work this morning. It's great, the headset blocks out all the thugs and homeless people smoking crack and since it creates a nice seal around my face I don't have to smell the piss and shit around me, instead it smells like plastic and a bit of cologne that a dab on the nose piece. I also get a good amount of exercise in too.
And that's JUST VR. With the new Apple headset revolutionizing AR we could see machine learning algorithms actively replace things in your view while keeping you aware of your surroundings. That passed out homeless man sleeping in his own vomit? Replaced by a psychedelic glowing mushroom patch full of spritely gnomes climbing and working around them. Knife wielding junky talking to himself and acting erratic? BAM replaced by a photo realistic Mario from the videogame Mario 64 enjoying his commute on the way to the mushroom kingdom.
The AR/VR revolution is going to change the way we entirely view cities, public transportation, and even just little things like brewing a cup of coffee can have added flair (imagine being able to see a loading progress bar (hovering in mid air with the magic of AR) that shows how much time is left to finish brewing your cup of Keurig coffee). The future is going to be fantastic.

VR is the future of video entertainment however the tech is limited at the moment, cost of hardware and production costs are high due to the market being full of greedy individuals.

What these billion dollar companies need to do is start supporting 3rd party in house developers again but keep the connections secret.

Anytime people get the scent of microsoft, facebook, valve or any large company, the developers start asking for millions.

You have to keep these greedy cocksuckers in the dark, it's part of the game. I know this from personal experience as a programmer for nearly all of my life. People I'v known will stop doing work and start seeking money in higher amounts, won't complete jobs, will become lazy.

The world is so fucked up right now because not enough people are evolving fast enough to understand that productivity and loving relationships are key to a success milestone. Everything with most of these people is about cut throating, blackmailing, hostage taking, complaining life is unfair so we must turn our backs to work.

Once these types of people stack a bank account, they then turn into stingy business owners who do the exact same thing they were complaining about working as an associate for.

Hordes of cunts with no love or passion for the project or operation.

This, the whole thing doesn't appeal to me. I like reality and the headsets look stupid

I think the optimal target market is introverts who want to escape reality and don't care about looks.

Fuck any headset from meta. You get a meta headset and that bitch is gonna lose all functionality in like 5 years likr some retarded iphone. I got a rift s and there is literally no support for controllers. No replacement thumbsticks you can change or nothing. A replacement controller is gonna be like over 100 dollars on ebay and you know its used so the thumbstick is already gonna be going out. Meta headsets are like fords. You drive em 60,000 miles and then sell to the next retard dumb enough to buy it. Im glad I got enough use out of it to beat skyrim vr and play some of fallout 4 vr before the controllers just completely took a shit. The left one wont even turn on anymore. Either of them. The old one or the replacement I bought on ebay will turn on. Its weird. Yeah bro dont do it just get a vive thats what Im gonna get when my crypto takes off

I'm probably going to pick up the next Valve headset.
