>What makes you think it's Swiss?
Nothing peculiar, but i've few swiss pieces from around this period and hallmarks are a real mess, they changed from towns to towns, and it's hard to find a coherent synthesis of marks from there until they adopted a normalization standard during the XXth c. . Moreover from my experience they liked very simple design on silver pieces, like the uniplat style.
Also last hint, the seller isn't living too far from Switzerland.

Those are just few clues, but it could very well be from the other side of the world for all i know.

I poked around but couldn't find anything definitive. One hunch is that if the 2 repeated stamps say "*** SOLS" maybe it refers to a tax or duty paid (in Sols per piece or by weight?) by silversmiths or people who imported silver? It looks like good old European silver to me so if a cheapie you should get it and continue researching at your leisure.

The metals play was always going to be a head-fake right up until it isn't. You are either early and not a second too late will be good enough.
Precious metals are a political commodity and its price is tightly controlled for a reason.
Think about the value density of a useful commodity that does not spoil. If you do not wish to store your money in cash, banks, or overleveraged equities then where do you go? If you could buy up oil/gasoline it could be nice although it will eventually go bad. Same with any foodstuff. THE ONLY escape from the all-encompassing international ponzi is precious metals. The dirty little secret, the nuclear waste, is the buildup of the bond market. We now have trillions upon trillions of debts that backstop it all, and it is our continuing contributions in storing money in banks, wallstreet, and insurance that keeps the momentum necessary to kick the can. When the thing finally dies you will find that all you own will be the debts. All of the good value has been stolen and now all that can be done is passing around toxic notes.

That's what happen when you don't produce anything of value anymore : you have to sell the heirlooms eventually to pay for the bills.

I can't blame foreigners for doing so, those are free markets dynamics, but it still sadden me a bit. At least it's ending in the hands of ppl who can appreciate those items for their real value. Why would you beleive that? A literal billion of 20F gold coins were minted by the french government, so i dont see the point of doing restrikes from something who already is the most minted gold coin to this day.

And tbf i don't mind much mass produced coins, whatever, millions of them are around.., it's more about unique pieces. I recently watched few vids of Drouot's live auctions in Paris, and toward the end you get the big pieces destined to the fat cats. Stuff like the personal guns of Napoleon, a 400yo painting from a maître who was displayed in the Louvres, an ancient marble statue who used to be in a duke's castle,... Pretty much all those items are being auctionned to ease succession splits in bourgeois families after the pater died.

Then all of a sudden all the "regular" french people who bid over 200 bux items in the room stop breathing and clinging, to be sure the auctioneer don't attribute any accidental move as a bidding sign, and you get a dozen girls in the back of the room, each one on the phone with mutts/chinks billionaires, who start to buzz and enter in a millions USD bidding wars macabre dance.

I've watched maybe a dozen of these auction sessions, and literally every single 200K+ lot auctionned ended up either in China or the US. That's what i'm talking about.

Bros, particularly UK and Royal Mint bros.
I'm currently stacking Britannias, they seem like a good Bullion option for lots of reasons. Tax exempt, purity, renowned, transportable, aesthetic, security features etc.
Are Sovereigns a "lesser" bullion option? Does their 916.67 Fine Gold purity work against them? Will they be harder to shift? I know the coin has a historic standing in our history, but is it worthwhile as bullion investment?

I'm trying not to be a collector of coins or variants, but i do like the horsey and i'm an autist for having a complete set.

who mentioned 100:1 here?
I myself am a partisan of 8:1 since it's the current extraction ratio for over a decade, and close to the native ratio in the earth crust (was 15:1 a century ago, now probably around 10:1 as we now know silver mostly agreggated close to the surface, unlike gold who is more evenly distributed). Not counting more gold than silver now exist in bullion form worldwide.

Sovereigns are built for coin circulation which is why they're 22k gold with a full sovereign being just under a quarter of an ounce of gold. They're popular here in the UK because they're legal tender and thus come with a bunch of benefits. Historically the sovereign has been a popular coin all over the world, but I don't know if it is now seeing as decolonization severed that economic connection. I love them, especially the double sovereigns as I am a numismatic fag, but as for selling sovereigns in regions outside of the UK I wouldn't know a thing or to how liquid they are.

I love these too but in Australia anything under 996 isn't classified as investment grade and we need to pay 10% tax on them
That's also why you can't get gold Krugs or Eagles here too

Also worth keeping in mind is that these videos only get views BECAUSE the people shown make the wrong choice. It is almost certain that there is a bias towards showing people making the wrong choice, both in selecting who is going to be interviewed and as to which videos end up on the cutting room floor.

$800 over spot???

>> No.56279072

is it normal for prices to vary on a website vs in their own local shop? just bought some and the prices for a 1oz gold krug are off by about 50€ and 1€ for a 1oz silver maple leaf. went in store to buy them anonymously and just checked the prices online and i paid more than what they sell the same stuff on their website. 1€ for the silver is not that big of a deal but 50€ on the krug is quite a difference imo.

For me, it's the mercury dime. Last time I was at my LCS I was buying some junk silver with as much money as I had. And after he rang me out, becuase I am such a good customer, he tossed on three mercury dimes into my bag. I said "wow! three for free!?" He laughed and said "haha, I like that. I'm gonna start calling you three for free!" Now every time I go there he looks up from the counter and says "Hey look everybody! It's three for free"

Mark seemed happy enough to accept its loss on that occasion; he smiled and congratulated the guy on making the right choice.

Platinum, Palladium and Gold because silver has less durability
Don't buy G7 gold, it's more expensive and they control the price
Palladium and platinum are scarce
If you buy big chunks of metal then it will be way cheaper
Right now just hold and study the market, it looks like housing prices will go down

Yeah that's the trickery, I lost about 96% of my stock investment gains in the last 4 years. It can happen anywhere. Most people chasing after yield, dividends and basis points will likely suffer an 80% loss once the bad debts are reconciled. Debt/leverage is a wealth extraction mechanism and it will get pulled out from under us and we'll realize we have all been buying overvalued assets our whole lives and we'll all be materially poorer. Precious metals do not have this problem because they are being shorted and backstopped in multiple fashions such as the input of labor, energy, and also extremely scarce and useful to production.PMs are going to get a lot more pricey as oil hits $100+ per barrel.
Your stocks are backed by pennies on the dollar worth of assets and only pumped up on the back of corporate profits that are subsidized by a $700BN trade deficit and overinflated purchasing power of the dollar. The amount of interest you pay for a house is proportionally destroying your purchasing power as you fruitlessly pay interest when the danger of shrinking purchasing power of bank credit could see a collapse in dollar value of your home given no one can afford one on a cash market.
People that have their "value" stashed far away from leveraged assets such as real estate and stocks and bonds will do very well. This includes someone who owns capital assets such as machinery. (directly and not through overbought equities).

i did the ping test on my coins and while the gold coin sounds really nice the silver ones dont. the gold ping is really loud and sharp and lasts for a couple seconds while all of my silver coins sound pretty dull imo. its also a very short ping compared to the gold one. i used one of those frequency checker apps and the pings peak at 4600ish Hz and i read somewhere that silver coins should be around 6400Hz. did i get duped? the seller is one of the more if not most reputable in my area. i dont have any magnets at hand to do those tests but ill get one as soon as i can.
