Maybe nothing. A good conventional long-term portfolio only needs stocks and bonds. Gold is approximately as volatile as stocks but doesn't produce income.

But there are some situations where gold is potentially useful. For example: if you're investing for a wealthy family and you're planning more than a century into the future, maybe it would be useful to have some gold in the portfolio.
